From what I remember Maddox wanted to be the manager and when it became clear he was not going to get that he pursued things and ultimately settled for a more glamorous job with D.C.

Definitely more a people friendly coach than Brocail IMO but we have gone the full metrics route since that which I am interested to see how it plays out

I still think he’s paid a price for the teixera trade. That trade was so awesome that the rest of the league was shocked and all of their front offices made a note to “watch out for this guy”. We experienced a prolonged “fall out” from the deal.

It seems like the trades since the Atlanta deal have been lackluster at best and we’ve paid a steep price in all of them. The Cubs seem to have gotten the better of us in all of our deals. The lucroy trade could rival the San Diego trade (adam Eaton for Adrian Gonzalez) as his all time worst. The dodger trade has not shaped up to be a good one. I hated it at the time, and haven’t seen anything good become of it yet. My hopes are pinned on AJ Alexy developing into something decent. Calhoun is a LA diva who thinks he’s Bryce harper.

We were also subjected to a “brain drain” of sorts. Nolan is in Houston, Levine is in Minnesota, and preller is in San Diego.

The Teixeira trade and the Hamilton trade were the bulk of the reason for his success as GM. Add those to the Lee trade and the Beltre signing and that gave us our great 2 years.

There are no more Hamiltons to trade for and Teixeiras to trade away and JD has struggled without those kind of deals.

He has done a very good job in building our farm up though.

Are you talking about our farm in past years or the current state of our farm system?

Admittedly, I don’t follow the minor leagues, but I really hope they have some guys ready to go starting next year. I can’t remember our last farm “success project”. I guess you could say Leclerc or Claudio?

The huge hole of course is that we’ve never developed a top of the rotation pitcher. At least, not in this century.

A bit of an overstate. He was an old school guy who was open to it from elsewhere and would not undermine FO. JD brought up Profar to play and Wash would not play him.

Banny brought nothing analytical on his own re this but meshed well with older players but not so much with younger breed who disdained his mantra. Not a guy for a rebuild

Only hank Aaron and a-rod have done it. Pujols will get it as long as he doesn’t sustain a major injury. I’m not sure how much longer pujols contract is or how much longer he plans to play.
