i hate to make a cowboys analogy here, but the following may apply.....when parcells took over the first season the cowboys played over there head and made the playoffs because he was a strict tactician and wasnt trying to make friends. this was the same when buck came in and took over for the rangers, they played over their heads and won 89 games. buck was also a strict tactician like parcells. eventually, both of these coaching styles wore thin and the rangers and cowboys regressed.
then the cowboys hired wade philips and they were a powerhouse. well, until the playoffs, but i digress.....wade was a players coach and the opposite coaching style played a large part in the difference of the 2 styles. eventually though the lack of discipline doomed the cowboys and they were awful. then the rangers hired wash, the ultimate players coach, like wade, and they have been unbelievable.
the cowboys then went back to the strict tactician style of coaching with garrett and they have been at least better.
and finally my point is maybe the rangers undisciplined play can be attributed to the lack of discipline they face. and perhaps, this team needs a strict discipline oriented manager to get their heads screwed back on. sorry for the novel, just something to think about.
Any time you start a baseball post with "I hate to make a Cowboys analogy", you probably shouldn't. Not even remotely similar.
