Not buying that. Something was bothering them and it wasn’t jet lag. Maybe 1 or 2 but not all 9 at the same time. Think some changes maybe coming and they all reacted. Not any of main players but it be some of the fringe starters

Evidently they did not intend to win more than the division. The proof is in the PEN.
I think CY grossly overestimated the talent level of those guys in the pen.

I wondered why some of those guys couldn't have been DFAed to keep us from losing Englert. Now, I realize it is because he thought Sborz, Martin, King, Hernandez, Leclerc, Hearn and Barlow were all quality bullpen pieces. Or at least he thought enough of them were, to keep the bullpen afloat. He was really, really, really wrong and he should have known better. Most of us on here knew better because it seemed obvious to us.

How long before the bullpen's woes start to affect the rest of the team? It has to be wearing on them.

CY did not count on deGrom going down therefore he was forced to take Dunning out of the bullpen. Had CY tended to bull pen business up front this would likely not happened. Now the choices are going to be hard ones. Does CY stand pat or give away part of the "farm"?

Depending on Dunning for the pen to begin with was a big mistake to me.

Hindsight. Does he stay in the pen? He shouldn't but we have five starts when deGrom returns. What then?

Or maybe it was a hedge against DeGrom injury

Regardless we all know and knew the pen needed help. Definitely guys have underperformed thus the disaster.

It was told on broadcast that perhaps these guys in pen are experiencing pressure for the first time. Might have merit
We are no longer bottom feeders

With deGrom's history and with the history of some of the other rotation members it should have been planned that Dunning would have to be in the rotation for a lot of the year and thus, someone else should have been in his place in the pen to begin with. That is pretty much what I said well before the season began. He cannot be in two places at the same time.

We all know you did not like Heaney pick up but with DeGrom you really need 6 starters

Having too much SP is not the issue nor is Dunning whether in the pen or not

We need solid winning pieces likely 2 at a minimum. How we get to this point I don’t know but kind of think Bochy will get us there hopefully by the break

Guessing the answer will come when CY recognizes how bad he messed up.

But yeah for what we got for Heaney I would have preferred Chafin and another 8th inning piece if the money fits

They weren't much good with no pressure which is exactly why it was obvious that we needed multiple acquisitions for the pen in the offseason.

The whole excuse that the media and fans on the Twitterverse are using to provide the front office with an excuse is not worth much. They are saying that the team is so good that it created a problem with the pen. Weong, wrong, wrong.

If the whole team had been treated like the front office has treated the bullpen, it would be seen as the rankest form of tanking.

Other than disregarding the bullpen don’t think he messed up and he’s already seeing it was a mistake

Not talking about the rest of the team. Should be apparent bull pen is the subject here.

It is and CY is going to have to give up some of our wealth to address it. Some of them will be favorites that we will hate seeing them go

At the time we obtained Heaney we had more than 6 starters if you included Dunning, Otto, Ragans, and Odorizzi.

At the time we obtained Heaney, we needed at least 2 and probably 3 relief pitchers.

They can rectify that to some degree by using your idea and moving Heaney to the pen when deGrom gets back.

CY built a beautiful house in the offseason. Five bedrooms and 3 baths. He provided beautiful furnishings and flooring. The only problem is, he completely overlooked the back wall of the house. He left it completely open. Now the contractors are gone and cannot return for 2 more months. Meanwhile, the weather and every kind of 4 footed and 2 footed varmints are moving in.
