I wish there was a bigger emphasis on throwing strikes. Walks are killing us. I mean yeah the play at home plate sucked balls, kept the inning going, and led to the grand slam, but 2 of the runs that scored on the grand slam were walks and that’s the difference in the game because we lost by 2.

Houston with their starting pitching problems have a bullpen

It's a long season and there will be ebbs and flows. But we do have to do something about the BP because it is ridiculous how hard it is for them to put up a zero. I am not sure we have had a pen this bad. And to think MM can fix it I think is expecting a little too much.

Wrong. The success of this team doesn't make the bullpen weaknesses stand out more. Many of us begged for multiple improvements in the pen all offseason. The weaknesses stood out all offseason long.

The Angel bullpen closed out their game with the Red Sox tonight with 11 straight outs in a one run game. That seems like a pipe dream for this bullpen.

Need Astros to lose today or tomorrow. If their streak makes it through Milwaukee, it will probably make it thru 3 more days in Oakland,

going 8-4 in the last 12 games, never gaining a game when we win and always losing one in the standings when we lose is starting to wear on me.

Rewatching the game and there seemed to be something wrong with the players from the opening bell. There was none of the normal chatter etc. against an average pitcher like Ortiz every batter went up there hacking at the 1st pitch and then walked back to the dugout and sat down. 4 batters in the 1st 16 pitches and it got worse from the 2nd to the 7th they saw 51 pitches that’s 8.5 pitches per inning. And worse 20 Rangers went to the plate in those 6 innings which breaks to an average of a little over 2.5 pitches per batter. There was something bothering the team

We are now in a position of having to give quality to obtain decent bullpen arms or continue this roller coaster ride

I would not overpay this year sacrificing our future. Don’t mind trading some of MIF depth but I never thought we were serious WS contenders without a pen. We still can win division/ or make playoffs minus injuries and maybe a decent callup or midseason trade.

Evidently they did not intend to win more than the division. The proof is in the PEN.

If they don't pull the trigger soon, and many say they can't even if they wanted to, we are going to lose 10 to 12 more games due to the bullpen between now and late July. We could be several games out in the wildcard race by then, when we should be leading the division. What a catastrophe.

I think that this is the kind of thing that would get a lot of GMs fired, but CY will get a pass because of his inexperience. He had better not make this kind of mistake ever again though, or he will most likely lose his job.
