Would the organization be better off if this team fell out of contention over the course of the next 4-5 weeks so we could be sellers at the deadline instead of holding pat or becoming buyers? Honestly, I think we would be better off. That being said I sure can't bring myself to hope for that. This is a very unique time to be a fan of this club. If they win I will be happy and if they lose there is a part of me that says we are better off. Not too much of an opportunity to be disappointed unless we have injuries.

doom and gloom. let's unload anyone and everyone who will hold up someone or not. i think we are good with what we've got and, to me anyway, the future(i.e. next season) looks good with Holland and Perez coming back and hopefully healthier and better than ever and depending on which story you read Darvish could be back and health by the end of May.

This is exactly correct, we would definitely be better off if we took a dive the last couple weeks and fell out of contention right before the trade deadline and became sellers, but i doubt any of us hope for that.... and hope this becomes something crazy unexpected, but that probably isn't going to happen

At best we probably play ourselves into a WC matchup and maybe a playoff series simply due to the weakness in the AL West right now.... every team is seriously flawed in some way and its pretty wide open at this juncture

Its not doom and gloom, its rational thought, this is a flawed team in many areas, we're only even in this right now due to unexpected and probably unsustainable starting pitching and the weakness of the AL West

Next few weeks will answer most these questions for us

Too many people speaking in absolutes when it comes to all these pitchers, none of us have any idea whats shaking down in 2 weeks much less 2 months, why are we even discussing trading Gallardo while he's pitching well and we're playing well, to replace him in favor of some guy that hasn't pitched effectively in 2 years, or one that hasn't pitched in a year due to TJS? or one that has pitched 38 innings in 2 seasons, or another guy that might be ready by opening day NEXT YEAR, but probably June?

A lot of "what ifs" in his potential replacements.... now if we start tanking like many of us think they will, then its a different story, but seriously just enjoy the unexpected ride right now

My thoughts exactly. Thank you. Tired of him being called a rental as well when I don't think that is a fact. He has pitched 180 innings or more for 6 straight seasons and looks to be headed for a 7th and is 29 and looks like he can pitch until his arm falls off. And I actually think he may be pitching better now than at any time in his career. And being from here and a Ranger fan growing up he may be very willing to resign.

So what do you do if you get say Holland and Perez back? Do you send back down Chi Chi? I don't see how you can at this point. Maybe you send down some BP guys and ease the starters back in coming off of injury through the BP? I could see that with Perez maybe but not Holland. Or maybe you toss someone that is in the rotation in the pen. Or even better maybe pigs fly and Feliz finds his 99-101 fast ball - I kid.

But seriously what do you do in that situation, it's tough to say who gets shafted. Might be clearer when/if that time comes.
No Way! The guy has a back issue, so the last thing you want him to do is get up and down. He's either a starter or he's not IMO.
JD's as well, I believe

Well, he's not signed by this season. So he'll need a longer term contract starting next season.

As we're configured today, Holland/Perez/Martinez/Gonzalez will be part of the starting staff for 2016. Harrison is a definite maybe, Darvish should be back sometime in the first half. Lewis could resign for another year, and he'd certainly be a cheaper, albeit maybe not as effective starter as Gallardo. Regardless, that's a lot of starters.

And for the record, I wasn't necessarily advocating trading Gallardo. I was only countering the post (think it was yours) about trading Wandy. Don't see that as a real option, or one which is going to get much return anyway.

jta has made an excellent point about appreciating what we've got for now, and I'm on board with this.

Has Holland ever had a complete healthy year? And how many? He'd be the one I'd most be worried about going into any year of having a set rotation. And he's about what 28 now, 29?

Just throwing a few cents in.

Understand you there. I was mentioning Wandy because I am fine with losing him and not so much the haul we would get. My stance is look for BP in the off season.

With you on that PDay. For so many years it was wait until next year and I do not ever want to get back into that mode again. I want to win now and we can now without selling the farm.

Yeah, I guess that's how the FO feels as well according to Xx. I got to be honest, I don't understand the rational though. It seems like in the BP you you would put less strain on your back simply bc you are pitching less. If by getting up and down is a problem, I would say that there probably isn't much hope anyway - which is really how have felt since he went down. Evidently I am wrong on this though.

By getting up and down you mean getting warmed up and then maybe not getting put in so then cooling back down right? If so, I suppose I can see that being an issue but seems like that would be more muscular than structural. Either way, obviously you want him to start.

Either way, I suppose the point is moot at this point. He still has a way to go but must admit I'm pretty impressed with how far he has come.
