they're not? who is this we?

Anyone following the Rangers...Two of them are coming back from TJS. Holland is still a mystery at this point. In two weeks it might look a lot better for he and Perez. There's just no guarantee they all get healthy, especially all at the same time. So throwing 4 million Colby's way to keep him around doesn't seem unwise. There's a real chance they might need him.

I agree. That is real reasonable. I would like to have those innings eaters around which is why I would like to keep Gallardo. But of course if they are producing. Right now those two are doing both. They show up, pitch 6 innings or more and keep us in the game in the majority of their starts.

Still giddy about last nights game. Kershaw has found himself after a bad start so it will be tough.

it sounds like the "we" is you. you are assuming that those 3 will probably not make the opening day roster next season without any solid evidence to support it. the Rangers are being overly cautious with Holland and Perez and i really don't expect either to throw any substantial innings this year so as to ensure they are ready for next season. Darvish should be ready by opening day although i wouldn't be surprised to see him not be available until maybe mid-April or the 1st of May. so i see the opening day roster being Holland, Perez, Martinez, Chi Chi and if Darvish needs another month to get into pitching form possibly Tepesch with Colby being a longshot to be on the team

I actually sort of like the idea of Harrison in the BP starting out at least, if he is able to make it back which I honestly still don't expect.

No Way! The guy has a back issue, so the last thing you want him to do is get up and down. He's either a starter or he's not IMO.

Darvish won't be ready to pitch in spring training, so the fact you think he will be ready for opening day is pretty ridiculous. Patrick Corbin had TJS on March 28, 2014 and he's not back in the majors yet. He's still working on his rehab over a year later. Yu had TJS on March 17 this year. On what planet should he be ready for opening day? The recovery is a year minimum and then you have to start your throwing program and have rehab. I don't see any realm of possibility that he's ready before June 1st 2016. That's not even my guess. That's me reading baseball writers who actually talked to team doctors about the situation.

Fraley might be an ass, but what he's saying is right. Fraley: Could Yu Darvish be a better pitcher post-Tommy John surgery? | Dallas Morning News

Derek Holland will not throw off a mound for at least two more weeks | | Dallas Morning News

That's 9 months of missed baseball the last 10 played. What kind of evidence are you looking for? That a lot of time missed for a guy to be a lock for next season.

Of the three I think Perez has the best chance to make the opening day rotation as he's the only guy throwing right now. Hopefully he will not have any more set backs no matter how minor.
Rangers P Martin Perez expected to resume rehab on Monday : Fantasy News

This isn't just wild opinion.

If he is available to offer a QO it might be tempting for them to throw one his way.

That is the key. "As it stands now." As it stands now I agree with you. I just don't expect the way things stand now to be the same way they will stand at the end of the season. Colby has proven a lot of folks wrong in the past though so he could very well prove me wrong about this.
Don't buy trouble. We have more now than we need now and "what if" frogs had wings.

They were underwhelming. I wanted them to beat Cleveland but after watching this series I can't help believe if Cleveland had Irving and Love that Cleveland would have won this thing.

agreed.

Rangers stated its too stressful on his back to be a member of the BP. (or something like that...maybe it takes longer for him to warm-up?) Either way, they said he's a rotation guy...

I agree, but if they are right there close in late July do you think JD will refrain from making trades? Can he afford to admit they aren't contenders?

If he learned anything from the Jorge Cantu trades of the world, yes. We were contenders, but hopefully he's learned that making trades for the sake of making trades is bad business

Cantu Guzman and Francouer...three guys that never made sense as Rangers.

Would be nice to have Tanner Roark now...

I had just come back to mention Christian Guzman, couldn't remember the name, but that was another terrible trade, Francouer actually contributed a little though.... and the cost was Joaquin Arias, someone we knew wouldn't amount to much by that time

Agree about Roark though

I'm all for getting some BP help but not at the expense of making Soria for Knebel/J. Thompson type trades

Frenchy played a good OF and had a great arm. He was the best out of those three for sure.

That Soria trade will hopefully haunt the Tigers for the next decade.

Those were some really bad moves for sure. I really do not want to get into much of anything at the trade deadline. I would rather wait until the off season to look for BP help. To give up prospects or quality starters other than Wandy I would rather we pass.

Sometimes the best trades are the ones you don't make. Or something like that.

I feel like Gallardo is the one most likely to go. For one thing, he's only a rental here. Don't see him fitting in for 2016 with us, if just a few of the moving parts fall into proper lineament for us.

I also think most teams are not going to give up diddly-squat for Wandy. I know he's pitching well. But do you really feel he'll have this type of season all the way through Aug/Oct?

Too many people speaking in absolutes when it comes to all these pitchers, none of us have any idea whats shaking down in 2 weeks much less 2 months, why are we even discussing trading Gallardo while he's pitching well and we're playing well, to replace him in favor of some guy that hasn't pitched effectively in 2 years, or one that hasn't pitched in a year due to TJS? or one that has pitched 38 innings in 2 seasons, or another guy that might be ready by opening day NEXT YEAR, but probably June?

A lot of "what ifs" in his potential replacements.... now if we start tanking like many of us think they will, then its a different story, but seriously just enjoy the unexpected ride right now

Would the organization be better off if this team fell out of contention over the course of the next 4-5 weeks so we could be sellers at the deadline instead of holding pat or becoming buyers? Honestly, I think we would be better off. That being said I sure can't bring myself to hope for that. This is a very unique time to be a fan of this club. If they win I will be happy and if they lose there is a part of me that says we are better off. Not too much of an opportunity to be disappointed unless we have injuries.

Exactly my thoughts too. No need borrowing trouble when we have enough already.
