That is the same tact they took in the offseason. That is how they will view it from now on. CY learned that very well from JD. In other words, it is a flaw that will continue to plague us as long as CY is here.

That's why the lack of bullpen acquisitions in the offseason is not a dead horse issue.
My biggest gripe was not resigning Matt Moore. That I don't understand.

You’re already tired of CY, so who do you want in the front office this offseason and next year instead?

at a certain point, the FO has to weigh present vs. future when it comes to trades. The Rangers have held onto almost all their pieces.

The idea is to build a window of contention, not a season.

CY did not have a very good first trade deadline. They had 5 needs. He did great at one. He did okay with one. He did poorly with one. He completely whiffed on the other two.

The price may have been too high. He held some restraint.

Not sure. I would like to see if Hedges could help Gray get back on track.
Worth a look.
In the meantime we'll get to see if Stratton has anything, and maybe Sborz can help out some. With Heaney scheduled to start, might not see him out of the pen for a bit. Again, question marks.

is he being graded on the "the third WC weakened the trade deadline" curve?

That is not the same as what I said. I imagine every GM has a flaw or three.
Never seen one that didn’t. A mistake was made in not signing a couple of relievers and the obvious cost in prospects now was too much. It will be something that needs to addressed this offseason.

Maybe we need an ex-relief pitcher and an ex-position player to be hired as assistant GMs to balance out CY and his tendency to focus mostly on starting pitching. Lol

Agreed. The window begins next season. Rangers will finish behind the Astros AND Angels this season. At best they will get the last WC spot. But most likely not. And that's ok.

Until Eovaldi is back we will see Scherzer, Montgomery, Dunning, Gray, Heaney & Perez is some form of rotation

To continue to pile up SP just like in the offseason and to continue to not to address the glaring weakness of quality proven relievers in the bullpen is a flawed thought process. Just as flawed as thinking that to make a run to try and get into the playoffs (or as CY likes to say “playing meaningful games down the stretch”) but not adding to an offense that’s been bad with RISP and overall dropped off considerably the last 2 months, are about one in the same…..

I am not holding my breath that he will change in the offseason. I think young starters like Bradford, Kent, Otto and White will be counted on for the bullpen in 2024. Maybe Dunning as well.
