Sub-optimal lineup with Smith hurting a bit, and Jung still on his temporary demotion. Not having Smith at the top hurts a bunch I think... but I'm hoping for a rebound performance today

Devin Fitz-Gerald has been promoted to Hickory.

Fitz-Gerald has been one of the few bright spots among Rangers offensive prospects.

I saw an article by Mark Feinsand that about potential trades and he said the Rangers could be interested in Josh Naylor and Marcell Ozuna. I would imagine Ozuna makes too much, but Naylor would be a lot cheaper.

Eovaldi threw a bullpen session Tuesday and will throw live batting practice this weekend at Pittsburgh before potentially coming off the IL next week at Baltimore or to open the next homestand. Eovaldi has been dealing with triceps tightness and a nerve issue.

Fitz-Gerald is most comfortable at shortstop but those who’ve watched him believe he has the intangibles to shift around the infield if necessary. Rangers shortstop Corey Seager is one of Fitz-Gerald’s favorite players, “especially from the hitting standpoint” and his father likened his play style to Ian Kinsler, José Ramírez and Jeff McNeil.

Rangers General Manager Ross Fenstermaker called Fitz-Gerald an “instinctual player with really good bat-to-ball skills” who possesses more power than his build (5-10, 185 pounds) suggests. He was listed at 5-9, 155 pounds during his freshman season at Stoneman Douglas and never grew to the size of Anthony (6-3) or Mayo (6-5).

“I might not pass the eye test,” Fitz-Gerald said, “but I go out there and play like I’m 6-foot-4. That’s what I try to think. I can compete with anyone.”

I am anxious to find out how Fitz-Gerald does at Hickory. Hickory is where a lot of bats go to die, so if he performs well there that could be very telling.
