You sure you want him up here around this really bad brand of baseball?
Yeah, not really worried about that.
He needs major league at bats.
He's ready. Why hold him back?
There's no good reason to.

From Evan Grant:

On Tuesday, barely 24 hours into Tony Beasley’s tenure as manager, a change in the Rangers’ approach to preparation became plainly visible. They all managed to wear the same-colored T-shirt. For the record: Royal blue.

Hey, baby steps.

Sound — or look —like eyewash? Sure. Mostly, color-coordination is. On Wednesday, all the logos might even match, too. But it’s not so much the dressing as it is the message interim manager Tony Beasley wants to get across for however long he holds the job. First, the “collective,” matters. Second, so do details. ...

When the players emerged in their relatively matching tops, it was for the old stalwart of spring training fundamentals: a pitchers’ fielding practice drill. It is not a common in-season occurrence. But Rangers pitchers have been dreadful at that aspect of the game. So, they were going to spend some time at it.

And a few moments later when PFP morphed into batting practice, the whole team — every last member of the roster — was on the field. That hasn’t regularly been the case. Shortstop Corey Seager does not hit on the field before games. The Rangers have zero issue with Seager’s performance or prep; his pregame routine is meticulous and detailed. But he does spend most of it in one-on-one work in the cage or via video. While he didn’t take BP on the field Tuesday, he was out there, talking with coach Corey Ragsdale. The visual was this: Seager put the team ahead of his individual prep. ...

While GM Chris Young and President of Baseball Operations Jon Daniels were laying out to him the firing of Woodward and his promotion to manager, Beasley was brainstorming how to best reach the team.

He settled on meeting individually with Seager, Marcus Semien and respected veteran Kole Calhoun before talking to the full squad.

“I wanted to have a conversation with those guys first about where we are, where we want to go, how they can help me get there, and what I can do to help them,” Beasley said. “That conversation will remain between us. But it was a conversation that we felt was necessary as far as some things that we probably need to do.”

Among things that emerged: Beasley could help them by streamlining pregame meetings somewhat, and they could help him by more integration into team drills.

While advance meetings ahead of a series will remain comprehensive, there is intent to “tweak” meetings before subsequent games. Attendance for those meetings which had been optional, though, will now become mandatory. The takeaway: Using team time a little more efficiently would hopefully create plenty of extra time for the individual work. Seager is hardly the only player with a detailed routine, just the one with the most detailed routine.

If this sounds like there is an issue with Seager, it shouldn’t be interpreted that way. He leads the team in homers, having already matched his career-high of 26, and began with a team-high .804 OPS. He’s performed. If others had performed as ably, the Rangers T-shirt color and PFPs probably wouldn’t be on the radar.

But they haven’t. As the Rangers continue to search for a championship culture, there are lots of elements they need to address. The thought: If everybody is on the same page from prep to perception, performance will be easier to address. And the reality is as the player with the biggest contract in the room, Seager is one guy whose example teammates will watch and follow.

“What Corey does, as far as his preparation, is what makes him the baseball player he is,” Beasley said. “And I would never ask him to not do that. That would not be fair. There are things I’ve asked him to help me with because I need his help. And I’ve made him aware. The things we’ve talked about, he’s already adjusted and made concessions. And I appreciate that. It shows that he understands there is a greater purpose.”

Seager is not expansive when discussing most subjects, but his pregame routine seems to make him especially uncomfortable. Asked how he would balance what he needs to get ready with what Beasley needs, he said only: “I don’t know; I’m still figuring it out.”

And then he quickly jogged off to join his teammates. All of them. In his royal blue T-shirt.

EG looks to have the insider knowledge. Being more unified is a good thing without hushing anyone. Glad he had some individual conversations with peer leaders. I assume him and Teen are in the same page
