Rangers can’t get around on a 95 mph fastball. Wait until Joyce comes in with his 105 mph fastball.

Jack Leiter was excellent tonight. 5 innings, only 2 hits and 2walks to 6ks. 3 runs but one due to a passed ball, I think. As well as another charged to him that was due mainly to Chafin being awful. Our boy is well on his way to securing a spot in next years starting rotation. The Vandy Boys are coming to Arlington next April and beyond.

From Scott Lucas:

Max Scherzer is rehabbing in Summerlin, Nevada, and wearing a black and green Round Rock Chupacabras jersey, lest anyone question his desire to return to whatever MLB innings remain in 2024.

I am sharing what Jared Sandler says here, but I do think the swing and miss rate is one of the most overhyped stats in baseball, I think.

From Sandler:

JACK LEITER WHIFF FILE

Whiffs have been tracked since 2009 so since 2009, Leiter's 20 whiffs are...

*T-most ever by a Rangers pitcher 25-or-younger

*Most ever by a Ranger in one of his first 6 career starts (Darvish was #1 w/ 18)

*Most by a Ranger this year thru 20 batters

Two quotes here. The forst one is from Kennedi Landry and the second from Levi Weaver, both regarding Blaine Crim.

"in more important news, Blaine Crim has two homers and a double for Triple-A Round Rock today."

"Someday this kid is gonna be a big leaguer and I for one will set aside my professionalism for one (1) night and cheer like an idiot for him."

And this from Jeff Wilson:

RBI double and two solo homers. Time to call him up, #Rangers.

From Jamey Newberg:

According to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News in the last few minutes: “GM Chris Young said Sunday the club had not ruled out the possibility of [Kumar] Rocker making his big league debut before this season ends. That came barely a day after manager Bruce Bochy indicated Rocker would not pitch in the majors this year.”

From The Prospect Times:

RHP Ryan Lobus has been clutch for Frisco this last week after being promoted, securing two saves in his two appearances.

Over 3 IP, he’s given up no runs, three hits, no walks while striking out five.

For the season he has racked up 129 SO in 91.1 innings.

Huff went 2 for 5 last night and has a 9 game hitting streak.

Sam Huff will be on a MLB roster somewhere next year. That should be the Rangers roster and he should be starting, but I doubt that will happen.

From Evan Grant:

GM Chris Young said Sunday the club had not ruled out the possibility of Rocker making his big league debut before this season ends. That came barely a day after manager Bruce Bochy indicated Rocker would not pitch in the majors this year. Not a conflict, the pair merely hadn’t had a chance to catch up after Rocker’s latest blitzing of Triple-A opponent.

Rocker, 24, pitched five innings against Las Vegas on Friday in his second Triple-A start, allowing three hits and two runs, while striking out eight and walking one. He did allow his first home run since going to Double-A in July to fully resume his career. Rocker has a 0.91 ERA and has allowed hitters a .372 OPS in seven starts since going to Double-A.

There are lots of moving pieces in sorting out the Rocker situation:

The experience piece: Given the Rangers expected 2025 roster and Rocker’s dominant return, the possibility grows he will be penciled as part of the 2025 Opening Day rotation. If so, getting him two or three starts at the Major League level this season would help him assimilate to the big league environment and big league hitters. It might make the transition next year a bit smoother. Young has personal experience with this. In 2004, the Rangers brought up a 25-year-old starter for seven games down the stretch. His name, Chris Young. In 2005, he opened the season in the rotation, posted a 2.93 ERA in his first 10 outings and was a staple through the season. Experience can be invaluable, especially in how a player prepares during the offseason.

The roster piece: The Rangers currently have four starters in the rotation — Nathan Eovaldi, Andrew Heaney, Cody Bradford and Jack Leiter. They are expecting Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer back within the week. That would give them six starters to shoehorn into five spots. The Rangers could move Heaney to the bullpen to open up one spot, but that still would leave them full with their best starter (Eovaldi) and three sure-fire members of next year’s rotation (Bradford, Leiter and deGrom) needing starts. It potentially leaves one spot for Scherzer or Rocker or the Rangers could go to a 6-man rotation for the final two weeks of the season if they made a move.

Crim should be on the roster and playing 1B next season also.

Jankowski should not be starting a single game, at this point.

He might have a 9 game hitting streak but his overall average is 242 with just 11 HRs. Overall he hasn't had a good year.
