Noticed our announcer who I always mute but heard this on the replay that when Semien hit his HR he said that Semien puts the Rangers back in front. That means we were in front at some point in time during the game but we never were in front until that HR.

The Rangers called Cole Winn up because of circumstances, not performances.

Sometimes it doesn’t matter how you get to the big leagues, just that you get there. He has responded to the big league challenge in an unexpected way, with six no-hit innings over his first four major league appearances. It’s the longest streak of hitless innings to begin a career by a Rangers reliever.

Not bad for a guy who came to the majors with a 5.68 career ERA above Double-A. Winn, who retired all six batters he faced against Seattle on Thursday, has walked just one batter and struck out seven. He has commanded a 96 mph fastball and thrown both a splitter and slider with confidence.

“I didn’t have the greatest past two years, but I learned a lot from that,” Winn said. “One thing I really dove into was my preparation and my routine to get here. I’ve been able to control my breathing on the mound and worked to control everything that I could control out there. That’s helped a lot.

“You need to lock in a little more up here because it’s all about winning. In the minor leagues, it’s about winning, but also development. I think I’ve responded to that up here.”

Winn said he worked with sports psychologist Brian Cain, who has worked with several Rangers, over the winter to get a better breathing and pre-pitch routine. He said he continues to speak with Cain two to three times a week. Cain has worked extensively with Josh Jung since he was a pre-teen and worked with Winn as a teenager.

In the off season everyone thought that the offense was going to need to carry the team till some of the pitching got back from injuries. That hasn’t happened. Good thing they’re in the west division.
