The Rangers host the visiting Astr*'s for 3 before going back out on the road. Texas finds themselves in second place on June 13, as we all predicted would happen. They come into this series at 28-31; scuffling somewhat since hitting .500, but their current pace puts them at 77 wins which would be a 17 game improvement over last year.

Leading the way at the moment seems to be El Bombi, who has been known to feast on Astr*'s pitching. After an 0-11 performance yesterday, the S&S boys could use some home cooking to get back on track. On the pitching side, we've got the law firm of Hearn, Dunning, and Teebeedee ready to file a motion to dismiss. 7, 7, and 1 are your game times. Wednesday is Dollar Hot Dog Day; @DT LUNA will be on the main concourse providing refreshments.

Kole Calhoun, RF, Rangers
Since leaving the Angels after the 2019 season, Calhoun spent a couple of years in Arizona, then joined the Rangers this year. He has done what he usually does: hit some homers, play a decent right field (did you know he won a Gold Glove Award in 2015?) and generally stay under the radar. But he was one of the best hitters in baseball in the month of May, and his numbers, typical to him, look better in this offensive environment. This is his 11th season: If he doesn’t make it this year, he probably never will.

Did you know that Perez was teammates with Michael Young? That’s a guy who has been on the Rangers for a while. Sure, he took a detour to Minnesota and Boston from 2019-21, but his return to Arlington has been a smashing success this year. His 1.56 ERA is incredible (and mostly supported by his peripherals), and the key has been keeping the ball in the ballpark. He has given up only one homer in 69 1/3 innings. He’s older and wiser now and has never been this good. Some of us are late bloomers, you know?

Heim spent seven years in the Minors, bouncing around from the Orioles to the Rays to the A’s before landing with the Rangers. He played and hit sparingly in 2021, with a .196/.239/.358 slash line to show for it. But this year, he seized the regular catching duties and has been the club’s best hitter, posting a .262/.324/.485 slash. He’s also owned Shohei Ohtani. The Rangers have another super sophomore in closer Joe Barlow (2.21 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, 11 saves), but he also pitched really well out of their ‘pen in his rookie season.
