I think you play with the future in mind and let the wins and losses take care of themselves. If we are sellers at the deadline it will most likely result in a worse record than if we are not sellers. So be it.

I expected this team to go 80-82 this yea, so to me, we were not going to have a great pick in next year's draft anyway. If we win more than that, then that means we are closer to being a WS team. If we win less, then we get a slightly better draft pick. Either way is fine with me.
A prospect is a prospect is a prospect...

Some are rated higher than others but needless to say that is an inexact science...

How many #1s have never panned out and how many lower round picks are in the HOF

How many good prospects have failed because of impatience by the team or themselves and how many so-so prospects make it because they were given the time they needed to bring it all together

A prospect is a prospect is a prospect...

Grounding into to many double plays lately which is worse than striking out.

I wouldn't mind seeing John King get some starts while Arihara is out, maybe eventually replace him or Lyles

Saying a particular prospect is a sure thing is like saying a frog won't bump his butt, too many ifs, ands, buts or maybes...

I don't believe anyone has said anything close to that.

Even veterans aren't sure things.

So where would you rather draft the number 2 slot or the 20 slot???

I would rather draft in the 2 slot than the 3 slot. Anyone would.
Is that because you think you will get a better player based on what someone else says???

It seems like you're trying to make two different points, about nothing being a sure thing, and also that analysts shouldn't be listened to?

Generally speaking, yes, the higher the pick, the better player you pick.

Of course, it doesn't always work that way. That is not just the case with draft picks though. Nothing is certain in life.

If you ever play fantasy football or fantasy baseball you learn very quickly that some lesser players will be chosen before some players who will perform much better than some picked earlier. That is because even with veteran players, nothing is certain. It is also because sometimes those drafting don't know what they are doing.

All that being said, what I wrote, that you originally replied to, still is the way I would go.(And I am still not sure how the "a prospect is a prospect is a prospect" mantra fits as a reply to my comment.)

"I think you play with the future in mind and let the wins and losses take care of themselves. If we are sellers at the deadline it will most likely result in a worse record than if we are not sellers. So be it.

I expected this team to go 80-82 this year, so to me, we were not going to have a great pick in next year's draft anyway. If we win more than that, then that means we are closer to being a WS team. If we win less, then we get a slightly better draft pick. Either way is fine with me."

Hoping for the split today. Either way, good thing this series went fast. Playing the giants at home isn’t my idea of a fun time.

I'm fairly shocked you had their win total that high.

Two years ago we won 78 games and I thought this lineup would be better than that one. I also thought we would, overall, have just as good of a rotation as that year. I didn't think wining two more games than that 2019 team would be very hard for this team.
