Apparently, the Sox farm system isn't highly regarded by the influential Baseball America. They have us ranked #30 :sad2:

That's higher than I thought. At least the Sox got value out of the high draft picks and made some very astute trades for younger guys.

Sox talent is both unproven and new in the minors. This season is an important season for judging how well the player development is coming along. Unlike the MLB situation - the Sox and training staff have been allowed to continue their programs so no excuses.

You naturally, as usual, bring up an excellent point. When you think about it, we obviously have no business any longer of having a highly rated farm being that most of those key players which help dictate a farm's rating, are now on the parent roster. Still, I wouldn't mind seeing us more along the lines of having a mid-level rated system. Milk what we have now but at the same time build those minors back up.

Kelly, Dalquist, Thompson and Vera are pitchers who have top 100 players talent. Cespedes - Colas - Colston and Burger can also get there with good seasons. The Sox - though - have to get these guys to progress.

We still have some promotable talent out there, but BA, a highly respected evaluator of minor league talent, wouldn't have us dead last if they thought we have a solid system in place. I actually said a few years back that we were extremely top heavy with our ML talent. Some potential blue chippers with our top 10-15, but then a huge decline after that. It's now bearing such fruit.

Well, that tends to happen when you have a really good farm system and they all reach the big leagues within a year of each other. lol. Need to reload a little.

Yeah, I think there's some big names that have really good potential down on the farm. However, the depth is just non-existent.

I'll half agree with you here. No doubt when most of the crème de la crème make to the parent roster over a relatively short period of time, a team's farm system will undoubtedly take a big rankings hit. But a top notched run farm system also provides the requisite depth that comes about from a really good scouting department, which sadly is something the Sox have lacked for several decades now (the Cuban connection being the pleasant exception). Let's be honest here, it was the stripping of our roster to obtain other organizations' top prospects that helped feed our current ballclub.

It's about that time of year where I become less irritated about living with Covid - and more irritated about baseball players and owners who can't cut a deal and keep the schedule for training and games. That won't take a mask - it will take a close pin over the nose.

A little bit off topic here. The Guv of Nevada this morning announced the end of state-wide mask mandates. To be honest, for the past couple of months the mandate was increasingly being ignored anyway, but the announcement officially ended it. And it just so happened that the better half and I had to do some shopping at Costco and a grocery store for my chili on SB Sunday, so it was a joy walking in without a mask.

Since MLB is going to universal DH - The Yerminator just became a trade chip.

I'd add Jake Burger and Zack Collins to this list, but also reluctantly both Andrew Vaughn and Gavin Sheets as well. Now to be clear, when it comes to these latter two, I still remain 100% firmly in the don't F'n trade them argument, but reality nonetheless dictates that we still have an abundance of DH-level players on our 40 man roster. And depending on who our trade target might be, we can't rule out the dreaded possibility that they may be vulnerable to such a trade. And now I'm going to bash my head against the wall for even thinking this out loud.
