I missed this one. Damn, I wanted him. Feel like the bounce back potential (even if not all that likely) is worth the risk

It's ridiculous to me that you take a flier on Williams and Sanders(who may have a little left in the tank) but not Chubb, who has a much better chance to put up big numbers

He also has a better chance to put up terrible numbers. Cowboys went with the safer play.

Texans still have a QB on a rookie contract. Cowboys have Dak, so the cap hits differently.

Cowboys have over $30M in cap space. And a flier is a flier. I like Williams, but I would take a chance on Chubb over Sanders any day of the week

He was pretty unanimously the top WR prospect in a weak draft.

People were projecting on where he would go. Not where he would go if he was only considered a WR only.

I had him going top 5 too. Because that is where he belongs to go based on a CB potential. If people were to go break down his tape as a WR and a WR only, no chance he goes in the top 10.

I have a really tough time believing that someone selecting a WR in the first round would have taken him before Tet when all you are doing is looking at them as WR's.

In terms of size he is not big. Compares physically to Brandon Lloyd, DeDee Westbrook. He is fast. But he is not a super speed demon. He doesnt have elite hands. And he doesnt run a full route tree yet. Just not a 1st round type of WR IMO.

Chubb over Sanders for sure, but I think with all the rollover and dead cap the Boyz are in the red by $3.5M right now and Sanders is almost free.

Sanders has been atrocious the last two years and not due to coming off an injury, so I don't understand that comment at all. And Williams probably had just as serious of an injury as Chubb so that one is a wash with Chubb just being the more talented of the two, but offset by his injury being a year more recent

The only thing I can think of is that when the Cowboys made their moves Chubb wanted a lot more money and ended up just taking what he could get

The salary cap is exploding like never before. It will go up another $100M the next 5-6 years. There is never going to be a problem signing a rental. Big dollar contracts, sure. But even those wouldn't be an issue if Jerry and Stephen didn't wait a year top late to sign their stars.

it is jerry's money...who cares?
it remains about winning and playoff advancement. Somehow, Dallas fans have forgotten why they play the game.

I mean Javonte, not Sanders. Sanders is just a warm available body. Definitely would rather have Chubb in there but that's several million more.

Chubb returend 11 months after his injury and averaged 3.3 ypc in his first eight games back, and then was shelved for the rest of the season. That's pretty ominous.

For comparison, Javonte also returned 11 months after his injury but averaged 4.0 ypc in his first eight games back and played the entire season.

I dont think of Hurts much at all. I dont get it.
but the one I Like the most is the Browns pick! :dhd:
I was wondering that too. Hurts is kind of just eh to me. Yes a division rivals QB is never going to be a favorite player but I don’t dislike him and don’t really have a negative view of him. But then I tried to think of which player in the league I disliked the most and couldn’t come up with one. I’d probably have to pick Jerry as the most hated

Personally I like Williams and think he leads the Cowboys in rushing by quite a bit.

But that’s not really an accurate portrayal of the two and is also a little disingenuous. Williams was hurt in 2022. In 2023 he averaged 3.6 YPC for the year. You can’t stop at 8 games but even if you do he only averaged 3.8 if I calculated correctly. Williams played 2 full seasons post injury and in them had a YPC average of 3.6 and 3.7. In 2023 when he averaged 3.6 YPC the other top backs on the team averaged 5.4 and 4.5 YPC and last year when he averaged 3.7 Denver’s other two main runners averaged 4.4 and 4.1 YPC. Let’s see what Chubb does in his next seasons.

Williams contract is for $3M. Chubbs contract is for “$2.5 million and can be worth up to $5 million”. I’m assuming that means through incentives which he won’t meet unless he plays well? Or probably there are some per game incentives that at least guarantee he is playing. But even at the full $5 million it’s only $2 million more which isn’t all that much.

Again I really like Williams and am happy with the signing…I just love the Chubb signing as a potential high upside signing. Another positive for Williams and recovering better than Chubb is that he just turned 25 while Chubb will be 30 this season. To me that would be the biggest reason to like Williams post surgery over Chubb.
