Schottenheimer has been coaching for 28 years, mostly in the NFL. He is over .500 as an NFL OC and he has over 10 years of experience in that role. It's not like he has hasn't been around awkward players. Sure, this will be his rookie HC season but I don't see why people are expecting him to be completely useless.

Exceptional coordinators get promoted every year and yet this guy with a legacy last name waited a decade? Something doesn't smell right.

Yeah I think the Cowboys will be right in the playoff mix this season, I really like the Pickens trade for them, they needed a clear WR2 behind CeeDee and Pickens provides that.

Do you expect Pickens to accept that role?

Who knows. Often it's just timing or like with a HC who wins a SB somewhere and then is fired a few years later when he doesn't have the same players, but he is still the same guy who won a SB. This is not from his Bio, it's from Wiki so I have no reason to think it is biased. Seems he was strongly in the mix more than one time during his first OC stint.

New York Jets

In 2006, he became the offensive coordinator for the New York Jets.[3] The team made the playoffs, the offense improved from the previous season and quarterback Chad Pennington was named NFL Comeback Player of the Year.

In 2007, Schottenheimer's name was floated around as being a possible replacement for the departed Nick Saban as the Miami Dolphins head coach. He later removed his name from consideration for the Dolphins head coaching position, preferring to stay in New York.[5] The Jets went 4–12 and failed to make the playoffs.

In 2008, the offense scored 405 points, just the third time in franchise history reaching the 400-point mark. Led by quarterback Brett Favre and Pro Bowl running back Thomas Jones, the team registered 42 offensive touchdowns (their most in a decade). Jones would also lead the AFC with 1,312 rushing yards and break the Jets single-season record with 13 rushing touchdowns. The Jets experienced a late season collapse and missed the playoffs despite an 8–3 start.

In 2009, after Eric Mangini was fired, Schottenheimer was one of the first candidates interviewed for the open head coaching position. However, he eventually lost out to Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan. The Jets reached the AFC Championship Game with rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez.

On January 13, 2010, Schottenheimer announced that he was staying with the Jets as offensive coordinator and would not interview for the head coaching vacancy with the Buffalo Bills.[6] The team finished with an 11–5 record and advanced to the AFC Championship Game for the second consecutive season.

In 2011, the Jets scored only 50 points in the last three games (all losses), while finishing with an 8-8 record and the 29th rank in total offense. On January 6, 2012, he was interviewed for the Jacksonville Jaguars head coaching position.[7] On January 10, 2012, the Jets parted ways with Schottenheimer.[8]

It's easy to point to high production college guys that fail. How many low production college guys can you point to that excel? Betting on attributes over production at a lower level (and with a high draft pick) isn't a plan that works very often in the NFL.
TB12
Favre
Phil Simms
Brad Johnson
Julian Edelman

Just to name a few.

Someone with an equally troublesome contract to dump.

As little value he has brought to the Browns, that franchise has been a black hole for QBs. Of course, he hasn't helped himself much lol.
Not sure what you mean by the "black hole" reference? They just pick bad ones since the return? Cannot turn the bad ones into viable QBs? Let good QBs go (did do that once for sure)?

This is bull shit. Owning an NFL team is a license to print money. If an owner can’t compete or is unwilling to compete then tell them to sell the team to someone who can.
Three richest owners in the league, IIRC, are the Broncos, Rams, and Chiefs. Two of which have Walmart money. Eagles are the team thats stacking their roster. It doesnt fully compute here. I think the Saints do it, too.

But it’s the bottom rung that’s crying poor.

Bottom rung is...Steelers and Bengals? The most successful NFL team and a team thats been to the SB recently? Hmm..

Bottom line imo is GMs have taken advantage of the Dolphins, Titans, Panthers, and Giants to stack rosters. I do think this offseason is showing us that some teams think the Eagles broke the NFL parity.

Yep. Eagles will regret beating Goodell with the Tush Push. He’s now seeking creative ways to try and fuck them over.

Its not just the tush push imo. I suspect owners get much more upset when an owner and GM makes all of the other owners and GMs look bad as opposed to a single player or two making other players look bad.
