If the Cowboys are still “in it” at that point and KC is having a typical KC year, I think he will be right

Yeah I agree. You never know what will happen, but I think the Cowboys are an improved team that will be a playoff contender and the Chiefs should be strong again, so it will likely be a huge marquee matchup. All 3 Thanksgiving games look good on paper preseason, and I hope they are, always nice when the prime time games matter a lot at that point.

agree. Obviously not a SB contender, but “should” be in the mix for a playoff spot. Not sure they will get there or not, but that’s OK in a rebuild year. Personally I’m still surprised that after the Pickens trade the over/under is still 7.5 even though it has moved to -140. I seldom bet the over on Dallas (nailed the under last year) but this year I’m all over it and pending health come late august I’ll load up a lot more.

Schottenheimer has been coaching for 28 years, mostly in the NFL. He is over .500 as an NFL OC and he has over 10 years of experience in that role. It's not like he has hasn't been around awkward players. Sure, this will be his rookie HC season but I don't see why people are expecting him to be completely useless.

Schottenheimer has been waiting a long time for this opportunity and seems to have a plan.

He simply has to be an ugrade over McCarthy. I think people are sleeping on the Boys as well, they always draft well and apparently did so again this year. Not a SB contender but a tough out for sure.

McCarthy is 62 games over .500 as a head coach. There is a pretty darn good chance the Cowboys didn't upgrade
Mac is a good coach, but change was needed, and personally...I think this may end up being the best move the Jones had made in a long time

If they are healthy, they can hang with anyone's first 22. Unfortunately, they wont be healthy to start the season with Overshown and Diggs out, both star players

I can see change being needed. I just found it odd that people were boosting Schottenheimers track record while downplaying McCarthy.

Schotty doesn't really have a track record as HC. Ive been a Cowboys fan since the Landry days, and of all the HC's that Jerry has brought in, only Jimmy had this big a culture change this quickly. Certainly BP as well, but Bill always felt like a temporary thing to me. I think Schotty will be here 10 years. We'll see

McCarthy didn't get fired. He was prepared to walk out that door. I really wanted him as Saints HC. It wouldn't work without Carr though. He and Carr would have been great.

Yeah I think the Cowboys will be right in the playoff mix this season, I really like the Pickens trade for them, they needed a clear WR2 behind CeeDee and Pickens provides that.

He had a HOF QB in his prime, one of the best of his generation, in Green Bay and in Dallas has had a lot of talent which resulted in 12 win seasons but we constanlty saw them underachieved when it mattered in January.

But at least you weren't pimping the Mike McCarthy/Derek Carr combination would be lethal so I'll give you that.

Schottenheimer had Russell Wilson and a little bit of Dak Prescott. I wouldn't expect his record to be the same as with Rodgers but he has also been in some alright situations. The STL Rams situation was bad but we've seen Spags survive that. The Jets situation was pretty mixed but nobody was doing anything with Sanchez.

I think its fair to suggest this could go either way.

Oh I agree with you. My comment was all about McCarthy and had nothing to do with Shotty, who I agree is a questionmark.

There are so few sure things that it's crazy. I recall Chase Young being touted as better than either Bosa, that wasn't close to a good evaluation. How about Clowney, a once in a generation talent, again not close. My point is every draft pick with a few exceptions are just that, a project and rarely a replacement. Mostly because replacement means you're trying to replace a good or great player and that usually doesn't happen. Yes you can argue the semantics of my definition of replacement, but the point stands that they're all projects and some work out and some don't.

It's easy to point to high production college guys that fail. How many low production college guys can you point to that excel? Betting on attributes over production at a lower level (and with a high draft pick) isn't a plan that works very often in the NFL.

Good Luck with that…

Someone with an equally troublesome contract to dump.

As little value he has brought to the Browns, that franchise has been a black hole for QBs. Of course, he hasn't helped himself much lol.

Ugh. Horrible expectation of having to root for the Cowboys on a holiday.
