You are right. That’s not how you define ceilings. Generally a veteran’s ceiling is their career best season. So by that yes. Thomas has a high ceiling.

But here’s the the thing how confident are you that he will even be close to his ceiling?? I just gave reasons for me to believe he will be closer to his floor than his ceiling.
Me? Not much confidence.

He'll probably be a reliable WR2/3, which is where he's going, but his ceiling, if he hits it, is much higher than a lot of the guys drafted around him (Jeudy, Lazar, Marquise Brown...) to @jarntt's point.

I stayed away from all those guys. After the first 24 WRs there's a stretch that didn't interest me much this year.

Wasn't the initial question, 'who to start, Thomas or Jacobs?' :)

And Thomas has really never been an 'air yards' type guy. Yes, he can, or at least used to have that in his bag of tricks, but primarily, he's the possession, volume based, 'get me the ball quick lemme run after the catch' type has he not? So Y/A being higher doesn't really move the needle for me. Does for Olave though.
I'd definitely start Jacobs over Thomas if that question is rolling around here somewhere. I was responding to "sleeping on Thomas in drafts."

Side note..
Winston sucks because he throws int's..true

but

why does he throw INT's? because he is both bad at decision making, and inaccurate. And when a receiver depends on, route running, timing, volume, run after the catch as his specialty, inaccuracy is a real bad thing to build a nice fantasy week out of.

Technically speaking isn’t Lazar’s upside basically Adams?? As that is who he is replacing.

Isn’t that the problem with ceilings?? They are unreachable, unless you surpass it. And players only surpass it because they were a total unknown.

yeah you did but this is good. I think Jacobs is a strong Rb2 at the moment but Thomas is definitely being underrated. It all depends on the connection with Winston. Two things going for Winston. Thomas is a huge target with a long winspan. Like you noted, Thomas is not a laser running across the middle. Possession WR, I like Thomas’ upside with Winston this year, if he can stay healthy…if both can stay healthy

I avoid Thomas like he has leporsy, don't trust him one bit. His absent since getting paid is to much of a red flag.

I've reached the point where all of my actively managed leagues (dynasty/redraft/keeper) are all on fantrax or yahoo and a couple best ball leagues on Sleeper

might have a dynasty league move over to Sleeper, but I will say - cutting down platforms is more stress relieving than cutting down leagues!

Yes it does simplify things greatly. I still got one Yahoo, one ESPN and one sleeper damn it and the rest is fantrax.

Everything I'm an active participant in is in Fantrax, and yes, life is easier. Opinions may very as to best one, but there's no debate that just one for all is less stressful

My nephew creates apps.
I told him it would be a good idea to create one where fantasy owners could consolidate their lineups/leagues.

I don’t think he took me seriously.

I have five leagues on Fantrax and my home league is still on CBS

Not hard to get his app to listen to Fantrax, the hard part would be to get Fantrax to listen to his app.

The Thomas & Olave discussion is a good one. Could go either way. Same for Lazard filling in for Adams and CVS (or whatever his name was).

But there is a bit of caution which i like to call the "Peerless Price Rule." Great WR2 back in the day. But when given the WR1 role... not so much.

Point is just cause 1 player goes down, or gets older, doesnt mean the next guy up is as good.

One more note as to the Raiders declining Jacob's 5th year option.

the way that 5th year option salary is figured, would equate to Jacobs being paid 8million+ under that 5th year option,, which would've made him the leagues #6 highest paid RB, right behind CMAC. When free agent RB's like Conner and Fournette are signing for 3-4 maybe 5 million a year, that's a no brainer call to not exercise that option and does not necessarily equate to anything other than economics. Ig Jacobs impresses McD, they could easily re-sign him in the 5-7 million range, why pay 8+?

HAHAHA ..he called him a pharmacy love it

I always make that Peerless Price type comparison to Alvin Harper. But yeah same thing.

Although the league has changed since those days. Your #1 virtually always lined up on the one side of the field, that side bieng whichever side the QB felt most comfortable throwing to, generally the right side of the offense, and only on rare occasion he would flip sides and virtually never moved to the inside slot (3 wide formations weren't all that common either), and because of that, he was virtually always lined up against the opponents best cover CB, there was no need for the CB to 'shadow" a receiver, because they simply were always lined up across each other. Nowadays, that #1 WR gets lined up all over the field, including the slot, and unless you've got a shadow type, lock down corner, that WR is being covered by whomever is in that area, so it's a bit easier for a #2 to play the role of the #1

I don't think any Packers player this year averages six receptions a game. Probably not even five.

5 catches a game is 85, I think one might get there, but it'd almost have to be Lazard, seeing as by the time any of the rookies get that level of trust with Rodgers, they'll have a bunch of games played with 0-3 catches it'll lower that average. Watkins career best is 4.6 a game back in 2015

You can actually do that to an extent on Fantasy Pros using their multi-league assistant. It does make things much easier because I have 3 on ESPN, 1 on CBS, 1 on APEX, 2 on Sleeper, and 7 on Fantrax to keep up with.
