Of course you do LTRF, but since Rotoworld specifically uses term 'decade' to emphasize a lengthy duration, I'm going with the term of 10 years and not 5.

But if he does mean it in the traditional sense(the 2010's)he might not be too far off. We drafted him in the third round, talked him up after drafting as if after some coaching he could be our #1 guy, then trade the farm for the #1 overall meaning he'll never see the field...It is a bit puzzling...

Even if they wanted to go with just the last 5 seasons, here's 10 NFL picks no later than the No. 10 pick overall...
  • QB Blaine Gabbert No. 10 overall
  • RB Ron Dayne No. 11 overall
  • T Mike Williams No. 4 overall
  • WR Peter Warrick No. 4 overall
  • WR Mike Williams No. 10 overall
  • DE Courtney Brown No. 1 overall
  • QB David Carr No. 1 overall
  • RB Cedric Benson No. 4 overall
  • WR Charles Rodgers No. 2 overall
  • QB Ja Marcus Russell No. 1 overall
Now that's a lot of wasted draft stock 'this' decade.

First of all, Gabbert is a starter with the 9ers...

5 seasons? the rest of those guys were taken 10+ years ago, are you ok Vita?

 Yeah, I was distracted a bit watching the NBA Game 7 and rather pulled dudes from 'this' Millennium and not 'this' decade.........

But regarding Gabbert, remember they were talking wasted picks, not busts.

Gabbert was certainly a wasted pick for the Jags at No. 10 overall when the Jags drafted Bortles No. 3 overall and not only has to be one of the greatest wasted picks of 'this' decade but far and away eclipses both the Rams Mannion pick and the Lions Ruddock pick.

I got ya, my point was at least Gabbert is currently an NFL starter, unlike our busted picks...Hard to call a guy a complete "bust" when he has one of only 32 jobs in the world

I got your point, it was just off topic since they were talking wasted picks, not busts.
(Not as bad as my list though :L)

Well in that case you are right, we are the kings of wasted picks  :suds:...
First round(Smith, Bradford, possibly Robinson)
Second round(Quick, Kendricks, Pead)
Third Round(Pettis, Mason, Murphy)

Pretty compelling evidence LTR for many sports writers to take swipes at the Rams out of the blue when they are discussing their covered teams. Sort of what people used to do with the Cincinnati Bungles.

After this many years of futility from our front offices/coaching staffs and ZERO positive results(winning records), you can't blame them(the writers). As much as I HATE to say it/admit it we are in a way a laughingstock in the NFL...Until we FINALLY produce a winning record, it's hard to argue...

That has been my point all along. Until Snisher put together a team that wins and dominates people for awhile, we will forever be susceptible to attacks from other people's historical perceptions, LTR.

Who cares? Your teams gonna take pot shots from these sports writers whether they are on the short or long end of the stick, it's just the way it goes. If they are just being stupid either way, and they at Rotoworld are, then what does it matter?

It's not like we can't use quality depth at any position. I don't understand why the QB position is any different especially the way this league eats up QB's lately.

It only becomes a wasted pick when you draft the guy high and let him go for peanuts like with the Jags and Gabbert deal where they drafted the dude No. 10 overall and traded him for a 6th rounder a few years later and then they draft his replacement with another top pick like they did drafting Bortles No. 3 overall.

First point, people usually don't make fun of winners...

Second...QB matters when you take a guy in the third round, and the next year trade the farm for the "number one" QB overall in the draft...

Third, why are we comparing to the moves of the Jags? They were an expansion team not too long ago(ok VERY long ago lol), but we are most certainly NOT...

Or trading to get to take a guy like Pead and holding him around for three years only to find he is a complete waste. Speaking of... Barrett Jones is back attempting to make another run at the O-line.

To your first point, sure more often than not but still winning and winners too take their hits....

1024x1024.jpg

It's like the Eagles Dirty Laundry song, "kick 'em when they're up, kick 'em when they're down".

Second, we saw how the Redskins doubled down at QB in 2012, and even giving up all them picks, it turned out better for them that they selected the No. 2 overall QB AND a 4th rounder. Had they not, they would have been in search of a starting QB shortly after drafting QB No. 2 overall. (And they doubled down in the same draft!) Oh BTW, how is that 2012 No. 2 overall pick not the most wasted pick of the decade? Considering what they gave up to get that pick and that he is a few season removed on another teams rosters it a much greater waste of a pick than the Mannion pick.

Third, because this sports writer was speaking of 'the most wasted pick of the decade'. I pointed to a much greater wasted pick in the last 5 seasons showing this sportswriter was just being lazy and going after the easy target because of the Goff pick. Depth is not a bad thing and upgrades to Foles & Kneenum are probably good things in the long run which makes Mannion far from the most wasted pick of the decade.

I don't know if this has already been mentioned or not but I see Jake Long is back in the news. He says his knee is completely healed and he is no longer experiencing any more pain. He is 31 and he wants to make a come back. Lets just hope its not in LA! We have already turned him into a multi millionaire! :L

Yes zeke, retro brought it up on the Free Agency thread and like you I would guess most of us feel the same way as you about a return to the Rams.

Well I have no problem having him back as "Long" as his problems were because of his injury and if he is now completly healthy and can play anywhere near the way he use to, a team can always use that. Now if he plays anywhere near how he played for us before, no thank you!

:agree:

I heard him on NFL radio yesterday. He was saying he is completely healthy, however them ACL's can be tricky.

I actually think he would be a good addition to any squad, ours included for the price he will most likely sign for.

He will add good depth, he is only 31 and has 4 pro bowls under his belt. For the Rams, he would be a good leader for all the young guys on the offensive line and maybe Greg Robinson can learn a thing or two.

I don't expect him back, but I do wonder how much he will eventually sign for.

We have Donnal, Battle, and the youngster Swindle that I'd take over this also-ran whining because he wants that paycheck. Geez!
