If Whitworth can last 2 seasons, and they can get a solid C, that should solidify the line and see if Goff can be who they thought he could be.

I think that is the key right now is to find out if they have their QB or not. If they waited to draft a LT and develop him, would you really know what you have in Goff if the line is in a constant state of development?

With little draft capital, a porous offensive line, a bust at LT, a 20 y/o 2nd year No. 1 Overall QB, no real talent to speak of on the roster at WR but projects, a talented RB who sees 8 & 9 in the box every down behind that porous OL, little bank in cap space to play with, a first year Offensive minded HC who has little to work with on the offensive side of the ball, the short term is the bridge to the huge gap with the long term in this transition period. Player in their prime at any position of need. LB would have ok. Or at least close to. 35 year old LT is rolling the dice a bit even after a Pro Bowl year.

The Woods signing isn't horrible, but I think we have a few of his type of WRs on the team. We need that 6'2 guy over the middle that can get open and make plays IMO

ALR, we are stuck in perpetual starting-over mode because we continue to think and do along this mentality. WE are ALWAYS looking to see what we have because, as Vita stated, our roster is replete with projects and developing players because we have consistently by-passed the real talent that is right there for the taking, draft-in and draft-out. Why in the hell do we not have a better idea of what we have when we draft these guys then go through this perennial bullshit of trying to figure out what we have by piecing together short-term answers to long-term problems? Absolutely Vita, because they have a model that works, cheating aside. They work that model and they find great talent. They get more rings because they know exactly the type of player they want that will contribute to winning or they get rid of them as fast as they find them.

This is true, especially the 'get rid of them' comment. They've cut first rounders after a year of service if my memory serves me.

Seriously, people are complaining about signing Whitworth, one of the very best at his position. Who cares if he is 35, show me where his play is declining. I didn't think so. Nobody declared him the future, just a great veteran who will whip these young lineman into shape by setting an example of how to be professional, how to last long in this league, and how to play at an elite level. Every position on the field need veteran leadership to go hand and hand iwith coaching. When Faulk came here, he came with baggage but the Faulk we know provided that veteran leadership calling teammates out as well as teaching them. Who in the hell could we have gotten that is better than Whitworth.

The Front office has one job every offseason, improve the team, even if that means, rented players, or short term answers.

I think the team that year had a grand total of 5 fumbles for the season. Deflating the football helps the RB's and WR's as well, not just the QB

That is the point BattleLyon. No, you don't always have to pay big bucks to get where you are going. Name one team that went out and spent a boatload of cash on players and the next year they went to the superbowl? Usually teams that add a FA or two are already winners that add a player to get over the top. We are adding players to fill in holes during the development phase. Talk to Jimmy Johnson who went 1-15 his first year with the Cowboys. They added no FAs that year and the next they added maybe two and they kept drafting wisely that netted them three superbowls. Our model? Zero superbowls!

How kick ass is a rookie going to be with Whitworth grooming him, I wouldn't be surprised to see us draft Bolles in the second round, or maybe Havenstein can be our future LT.

Havenstein is not a LT. He wasn't in college and he is not going to be one in the pros. Yea, I see us drafting Bolles but if you want a coach, hire Whitworth as one and save all that player money. Look, we are in the developmental phase of this club-AGAIN. It is time to stop with this short-term-gap-filling waste of money and time and employ the Caboys under Jimmy Johnson and the NE models to build a true winner!!

Being reunited with Todd Gurley makes this a bit more interesting, but still this is a guy who fell behind Nick Foles in KC, albeit Nick is a Andy Reid guy, so there is that to consider.
