Yep, this was the knock on him coming out of SC.

Good to see the kid get to play just miles away from where he grew up. (Gardena is just a hop skip and a jump from Inglewood) Maybe that will motivate him to play well in front of his old school mates?

You think Robert Woods is better than JuJu? Include the price tag in that question.

I'm with shopson, these contracts are front loaded so they will help transition Goff and implement McVay's system without breaking the bank.

We really need to consider that our draft capital was spent and we just don't have the options through the draft like in years past.

I like it, both player bridge the short term well while we figure out a long term and recover from acquiring our Franchise QB.

We really rolled the dice on Goff, but we are in the thick of it now so it's got to be about making that work first.

Rolled the dice on Tavon, G Rob, and keep rolling the dice.

Interesting how the front office hacks don't just watch how the Pats make moves. These guys have to go after next year if this flops.. Again

I like Woods but in my opinion it's a lateral move after losing Britt. Even though Woods has great hands unlike Britt. Where is Jeffery!!

How is essentially a one year commitment to a pro bowl LT rolling the dice?

Hell no, JuJu is compared to Dez, and will come as you point out, without the price tag of Woods or a Dez. I just don't see him on the board when we go to select with our 2nd round pick, do you?

If so, that's not a bad situation, we draft JuJu for sure, and then we have #1 Smith, #2 Brown, and Tavon in the slot!

I agree with you SJ but it is what it is, and now that Fisher is gone, hopefully that culture changes. Maybe it's Demoff and Snead but we surely have vested a lot of capital in Goff, it's important that we do what we can to keep him upright and give him a chance to be successful in McVay's system.

Them draft picks we traded away in haste are long gone, not much we can do about it except circle the wagons and make the most of the situation.

G Rob was a pro bowler?

I think Whitworth may be ok next year but I can't seriously count on a 35 year old LT. I'd rather have a player in their prime ready to bust out

Yeah but you don't want to overpay out the ass.

You are definitely incorrigible Cougie. Doesn't matter what orifice you are overpaying out of, YOU ARE STILL OVERPAYING!!!

And your fantasy of running the show? Two words: CLUSTER F...!

Absolutely disagree, we are renting a talented LT for a year that performed better than many younger LT's over the last few years.

He is a stop gap that allows us to move GRob to Guard and evaluate him at Guard to possibly take on his 5th year option, and finally we should get some value out of that reach!

We need a road grader in front of TG and Rob should be successful in that role.

All we need now on our offensive line is a Center, and we can fill that need in the draft.

It would take $5M+ per to get Juszczyk and he's already agreed with the Niners.

This was before or after we signed two more useless players? I get it shopson. He went somewhere else. The larger issue remains. We don't have a clear idea of the type of player we really want to win, we are in a mess with resource capital (draft picks and cap space), and because of these factors, we are not proactive like NE, we are REACTIVE and this perpetuates the mess!!

And SJ, you are right, the Pats do it right.

But as I stated earlier, they can get away with it because the always win and guys are willing to play for them for less because they want that chance at a ring.

When you are the Rams and you suck, you have to overpay to get guys to come over, or take the old vet that is looking for 1 last contract.

When the Rams become contenders, then that can start doing things like the Pats do, but until then, the only way to convince players to come over is with $, cause money always talks.

Yep, there is no substitute for winning like they have. The rich get richer!

And in the NFL, the Rams are the Little Sisters of the Poor.

i

OT Andrew Whitworth, Rams

Grade: B+

The Rams have spent years attempting to develop their left tackle of the future without any success. Now they have their best left tackle since Hall of Famer Orlando Pace left. Whitworth isn't quite a Hall of Famer, but he has been one of the five best left tackles in football for several years now while protecting Andy Dalton's blind side in Cincinnati. He hasn't slipped much, if at all; Stats LLC suggests Whitworth didn't allow a single sack during the 2016 season.

The 35-year-old obviously isn't going to be Los Angeles' left tackle for the long haul, which raises questions as to why a rebuilding team would hand Whitworth a three-year, $36 million deal. There are two clear arguments for the deal. One is that the Rams are really only committed to Whitworth for one year; they guaranteed the three-time Pro Bowler $12.5 million in 2017 with just $2.5 million due in guarantees the following year. That's paying Whitworth less than the franchise tag would have cost this season.

Jared Goff. Goff was a mess in the pocket as a rookie but also was beset by pass pressure; he faced the league's third-highest blitz rate (34.3 percent) and its second-highest pressure rate (35.6 percent) while taking sacks an unreal 11.2 percent of the time. No quarterback was going to look remotely competent under that level of pressure, let alone somebody as inexperienced as Goff. Whitworth should take over for the massively frustrating Greg Robinson and lock down one side of the line for the time being.

The part in bold that I highlighted is the real issue. Again, it is the core factor as to why we are in the mess that we are in. We do not have a clear direction from the top on what is required to win and because we don't we do a lot of bullshit activity: Ya know, throw anything up on the wall and see what sticks and then go with that and hope it all works out.

What is rolling the dice about signing the W brothers? Whitworth is only a one-year deal you say. It doesn't solve the problem long-term is the answer. Don't you want a left tackle to be around for 10 years or so like O. Pace? And where did we get O.Pace? If Whitworth pulls a Jake Long and get hurts, you are right back at the starting gate again.

And the Woods signing? The hope of him DEVELOPING has been uttered and isn't that the same BS we had with Fisher and Snead? How many freakin' projects did we drag in here with the HOPES that x,y, z will all work out? Once again we are doing the same bullshit we did before and all we do is spend money!!!
