None of these guys were "very good" their rookie season (with Maybe the exception of Mike Glennon) and most didn't even have any season where they were "very good" their entire careers.

They were basically, "Oneders"...

Raiders won't be drafting a QB. They like what they have seen from O'Connell and so do I. Wish the Hawks would have drafted him.

IDK they fired their GM and HC and likely hire new guys for those jobs who will want to draft "their" players. O'Connell has done alright but IDK if 7 interceptions in 8 games, 200 yards a game, 63% completion is enough to keep the new GM from drafting a QB ( who would be his guy) IF there is one still on board that he likes when the Raiders first is OTC. Raiders are going to want to sell tickets and merchandise and a shiny new rookie QB would help with that. More I think about it the more sure I am they will draft a QB round 1 unless those QBs fly off the board ahead of their pick.

if the raiders have a shot at one of the top 3 QBs, they are pulling the trigger.

they may even be one of the teams that takes nix or penix at the top of the 2nd if they fall.

Sounds about right. All the QBs worth having could be off the board by the time Seahawks turn comes around.

There is no way this team is going to lose out, so the best realistic draft position is probably 9 or 10. I bet at least 3 QBs will be off the board by then, so the strategy is trade up to get one? Already a huge gamble taking a QB early, so double down on that and put even more on the line? Or is this QB class so strong that the 4th best QB is a franchise player?

As of 12/12, ESPN's football power index projects the Hawks with the 14th pick. At least in terms of QB prospects, that's pretty much an area where you're either reaching for one or you have to give up quite a haul to move into position for one of the top guys.

Neither of those outcomes are appealing to me in the slightest.

So we wait and take one at the top of round 2

Oh wait.....

Not having a 2nd round pick right now doesn't mean we won't make a pick in the 2nd round.

Yeah if we're at 14th overall, I can definitely see us trading down while picking up a 2nd round pick as well...

Could happen, not excited about the idea. I want a QB prospect that we can get behind and that's not looking promising.

The last trade down from 14 yielded two 3rd rounders for 9 spots:

Traded • 2021 first round pick (#23-Christian Darrisaw) • 2021 third round pick (#66-Kellen Mond) • 2021 third round pick (#86-Wyatt Davis) to Vikings for • 2021 first round pick (#14-Alijah Vera-Tucker) • 2021 fourth round pick (#143-Tyree Gillespie) on 2021-04-29

It's also possible to trade into a round using other picks, not just trading down from a 1st rounder.

What would you be willing to give up to move from #14 in to the top 5? If our QB is there and we end up with the #14...

In this past draft, the Texans went from 12 to 3 and it cost them a 2nd in '23 (33rd overall pick), 1st in '24, and 3rd in '24. That's the same # of spots we would have to move to go from 14 to 5. Our challenge with that sort of deal is we currently don't have all of those similar picks with the Leonard Williams trade. The odd thing to me about that Texans trade is they didn't do it to get a QB. They took Will Anderson because they got their QB at 1.2. Not sure what kind of a season Anderson has had, but I don't think I would want us to give up all that draft capital unless it was for a QB. And even then, I don't know if I would want them to do it.

Getting to #5 also might only be a big enough jump to get the 3rd QB prospect, whoever we think that is. I dunno man.

With that #33 overall pick the Texans gave up with the package they used to move from 12 to 3, they ended up trading that to the Titans. The Titans used it to draft Will Levis at the top of round 2. To get that pick, they gave up a 3rd rounder in addition to swapping spots on another 3rd round pick as well as swapping spots in that 2nd round. Once again, that's a tough deal for the Hawks to pull off without that 2nd round pick.

Outside of the Chargers game O'Connell is what he is, a backup with mediocre numbers and a high turnover rate. Whoever the Raiders select as new HC/GM, will take a top 3 QB in the draft if they get that chance.
