Pros and Cons of WKU game

Pros:

Taylor Martinez!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Took care of business for 4 quarters unlike teams like Oklahoma, Florida, and Texas.

Cons:

Defense was terribly inconsistent as a whole
My favorite defensive player Cameron Meredith got hurt
Gave up WAY too many yards to WKU
WKU RB had 155 yards rushing
Only got 2 takeaways
Can't hold onto the ball again
Should not have had to punt in the first half
Only 1 sack


Overall:

Put up some good offensive numbers and struggled on defense. Good sound butt kicking on the scoreboard. Martinez looked GREAT but I am not going to go overboard on him just yet. It was just the worst team in division 1-A last year. Do it in 2 weeks and then I will start drooling.

Yeah Washington got beat but BYU is a good program. It isn't like they got beat by North Dakota St or Jacksonville St.

Personally I think Taylor is a natural QB when it comes to reading and picking apart a defense on the run......

Right now I agree with the both of you and think that Green looked really good today when he came in. His passes were crisp, his release was FAST, and he was right on the money. Looked like a man who knew what he was doin.

Also, multiple times tonight Green took off running and it looked like he would be stuffed but gained about 3 or 4 extra yards by lowering his shoulders and blasting through 3 defenders.

but......... without DOMINATE line play......... that won't get you much against a top 20 defense- which is what we want if we want to be winning National Titles- which is Bo's goal.........

Y IS EVERYONE SCARED OF K-STATE. Yes they are much improved there not THAT good i have seen much much better. I think the only reason they will be a threat is becuase we might be looking ahead to texas im sick of hearing about gay-state

Overall;

It's a "W"

We did not look like a top ten team, but there were moments of spark that allowed us to see what is in the cupboard.

Bo' made it clear that we have much work to do and that the performance was not acceptable or up to the standards we have placed upon our program.

What does this mean? It means we are a work in progress with a lot of talent that needs to be cultivated. It also means this week will be pretty intense for (Practice). But they are anyway. The injuries we had suffered played a part as well, but we can not use those as an excuse as we have players capable of coming in and stepping up!

T magic has the abilities to make our offence very difficult to defend. If you noticed, we were pretty vanilla in much of our game plan; this was not done by accident.

On a side note, I believe Willie Taggart is a good coach and will have WKU playing much better ball then previously.

I will close how this thread opened by re-stating what Hawkeyehater stated.

"Good sound butt kicking on the scoreboard" but should not "go overboard" on positive or negative speculation yet" Put things on hold for a few weeks and let's see how this team comes together after a few weeks of Bo's tender loving care!

He really does care deeply about his players, but he also demands a level of effort and expectations of his players, coaches as well as himself. There are enough corrections to be made to go around!

Kansas State is the second best team on the schedule....... Period.....

They have the best COACH out of anyone on the schedule........

They have the best game changing running back on the schedule.........


They played us tough last year...........


They will play us tough this year.............

I felt that if NU were playing a more athletic opponent, there were a couple of passes in the game by (Martinez and Green ) that would have been picked off..One in particular would have been a pick 6..

1 more thing I forgot on the "pros" side.

My biggest criticism of Cody Green last year was that he threw every ball whether it was long or short as hard as he possibly could. He didn't show any ability to have any touch on the ball. I am sure that had more to do with that he was nervous and jacked up to be in there as a true freshman. Last night he threw the ball really well and didn't try to fire every ball at the WRs. He showed some nice touch on some of those passes.
