first time talking to the philly media since 2011.. he had a big interview with TSN i think that's going to air tonight as well if i'm not mistaken

supposedly he's in really bad shape.. sucks.. i hate pronger the hockey player, but i really hope he can get healthy again and can live out his life






brings up an interesting cap/buyout question though.. in the new CBA you're not allowed to buy out an injured player, but what if pronger retires, can the flyers amnesty buy out the rest of his 35+ contract then? he's got a 4.9 mil cap hit until the summer of 2018 (horrible contract homer, you idiot).

It is a time of weakness, a side of Pronger we have never been privy to — like Samson after the haircut. A guy who never gave an inch is now about 30 yards behind the battle, and unsure — that’s right, Pronger is not at all confident here — if he will catch up.

“What’s happened was I had 30-year-old eyes. I got hit and the doctor told me I had 60-year-old eyes,” the former Hartford Whaler, St. Louis Blue, Edmonton Oiler, Anaheim Duck and Philadelphia Flyer tells Murphy. “I don’t have very good peripheral vision. That so-called sixth sense? I used to really have a good one. Now, I couldn’t feel anybody comin’ around a corner. My kids scare me all the time.

“That used to be what I was known for: knowing where everybody was; having a feel for who was around me. Now I don’t have that.”

You know, the buyout thing is kinda silly when you put it up against a 35+ contract. I like the buyouts, but man that's a big break on what was a stupid deal (Pronger was important, no duh, but the contract is horrible). I imagine he wouldn't retire if it wasn't going to help the Flyers though. If they can't buy him out, then retirement would equate to not being able to go on IR, and being on the books for awhile, right?

yep.. if he retires the flyers have a 4.9 mil cap hit until 2018 that they can't do anything about (pending the amnesty buyout of a retired contract question)

noobdy is arguing that it's a stupid contract, but in fairness to pronger and his recovery, i dont think he should have to be worried about 'proving' that he's trying to come back.. he should be able to retire in peace without feeling guilty

Does one have to "prove" they're coming back to stay on LTIR? If so that certainly changes things and I'd understand his retirement. I mean, I understand it regardless, I'm just sure he hopes to do what's right by the Flyers as well.

So...it's like unemployment. Hah. In that case I could see him just wanting to retire. That said, getting paid a lot of money to go take a physical occasionally isn't bad. And with concussions "actively taking steps toward recovery" is basically retirement.

ya.. i'm not sure it was either.. though, a couple of the writers bitched him out for not talking with the media when he was helping with the quick training camp in january.. the philly media really is atrocious

Sometimes I wish everyone got to experience a concussion so they could fully understand how much they suck. I mean, I suppose we could just hit 'em all. But really post-concussion syndrome is like having a terrible migraine, vertigo, dementia, and bipolar disorder all at once for some of these guys. BUT YEAH, I'LL TAKE SOME TIME TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT IT.

But really post-concussion syndrome is like having a terrible migraine, vertigo, dementia, and bipolar disorder all at once for some of these guys. BUT YEAH, I'LL TAKE SOME TIME TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT IT.

Never had one diagnosed, but pretty certain I had a concussion years ago. Went skiing, went off a jump, hit a patch of ice and hit my head hard. Blacked out for about 20 seconds and was nauseous and light headed for about a week after that. Absolutely miserable.
