I'd say they are all similar but different. All have injury issues. It is interesting how Bonds was so good late in his career though. And obviously he was juicing, but the guy had one of the best "eyes" I've ever seen. He'd go 1 for 1 or 2 for 2 with 2-3 walks per game alot.

But yeah 160 games a year + aging.. These guys can't make the same turn on the ball like they could early in their career.



Injuries or not, it's still a rapid and major decline. The Derek Jeter, Craig Biggio, Ichiro type of players have a more gradual decline in their 30s as opposed to a crash and burn in their early 30s like many of the sluggers.

The recent exception to the slugger trend is probably Ortiz, who's an outlier because he declined heavily from age 32-34 then all of a sudden had a second prime at age 35 on.

That shows me that the HR type hitters break down fast than guys like Jeter and Ichiro, even Biggio type players. Certainly is consistent. Always a few exceptions.
