If he hits 40 home runs again, who's going to care? Besides HammerDown, that is.

Instead of batting average (because I don't care about that), I'll guess his wOBA to be somewhere between .340-.370 :suds: Still not worth the money, but better than a replacement player.

I'm going to be so wrong on this

no team wants this bum:suds:

Albert Pujols went supernova in Tuesday's 8-6 win over the Rangers, cranking a pair of three-run homers to finish with six RBI.

Pujols began the pyrotechnics display when he launched a three-run home run off Kyle Lohse in the fourth inning. He would repeat the feat just one frame later. The first of those homers brought the Angels back from an early 3-0 deficit, while the latter boosted them to a 7-5 advantage that would not be relinquished. For the season, the aged slugger is slashing .252/.331/.447 with 19 homers and 71 RBI over 349 at-bats. His counting stats remain fantastic even as the average has fallen away with age.

0.6 fWAR this year. He hasn't approached 4+ since 2011, his last year in St. Louis.

They're paying an old bum $30,000,000 to be a liability in the four-hole.

A couple of HR doesn't change a thing. :suds:

He has 19. He isnt the same hitter by far and isnt worth 30 mil but he is 36. I'll take 19 homers in the 4 hole and Padres would too

Not the same guy as 10 years ago but man... Have u seen the guys hitting behind him the past 3-4 years?

#5 sees maybe 1-2 good pitches every at bat. He needs to take more pitches. Bonds at his age had 4x the walks #5 has and hit .330.

No one, not even Arte Moreno thinks that juiced bum is worth $30,000,000.

So his career is following a natural performance curve?

Tough to judge man. The guy's first decade was comparable to Ted Williams. He played hurt alot late in his career as a redbird. It's catching up with him obviously + the man doesn't have the discipline at the plate he used to. Pride? He wants to hit HRs and barely goes to opposite field anymore. He's changed no doubt about it.

Pretty sure if you don't drink alcohol that you're not going to put anything like steroids in your body as well. And it's not like he hit 50-60 HRs for 2-3 years like Sosa, Bonds, and Mac did. He was a consistent .325 hitter with 40 HRs and 100+ RBIs during his MVP or runner-up stretches.

If he was patient enough to take more pitches and draw more walks like Bonds did at this age his stats would be better. Like Bonds did, he sees a few good pitches in a game.

Sluggers tend to decline significantly and rapidly in their 30s (whether by injury, loss of skill or a combination of both), and Pujols seems to be following that trend.

I mean, the guy from age 21-30 had a .331 batting average, and from age 31 on never hit .300 and has a .270 average.

The list of sluggers declining rapidly and heavily is a long one...in addition to Pujols, guys like Fielder, Hamilton, Adrian Gonzalez, Howard, Teixeira, Berkman etc are all recent examples of this.

I'd say they are all similar but different. All have injury issues. It is interesting how Bonds was so good late in his career though. And obviously he was juicing, but the guy had one of the best "eyes" I've ever seen. He'd go 1 for 1 or 2 for 2 with 2-3 walks per game alot.

But yeah 160 games a year + aging.. These guys can't make the same turn on the ball like they could early in their career.
