Davis, by the way, has been quite good since we acquired him. It's good to have another guy in the lineup who commands the strike zone and draws a lot of walks.
Melancon will have to get Braun to start the ninth. Hopefully he can lock this one down. We could use a road series victory, especially against the Brewers.
melancon, great setup but not a closer.
try watson for 5 games, then try wilson for 5 games, then try morris, then try welker and the AAA guys when the opportunity presents.
i didn't think this was our year back in the winter and definitely don't now.
grilli won't be our closer of the future and neither is melancon (at least doubtful).
i do like melancon as our back end, but we need to audition our talented shark tank to see if we have a replacement.
next year we will have polanco with 300AB under his belt, marte getting used to 5 or 6 spot for the rest of this year. a better 1B situation (davis and gaby or someone better) and taillon back in may.
audition to see who is part of 15-19 and who is trade bait (wandy)
Could've started next year with Polanco having 650 AB under his belt.
The "window" never starts because the players "aren't ready" but the players don't get promoted when they're ready because we're "not in the window yet".
It's circular thinking and it's bullshit. It's only getting worse. Walker is on pace for 30+ homeruns. Cheap bastards never got the extension done and now he's going to start costing a fair amount in arbitration. I suspect that either he or Alvarez gets traded and then we'll be waiting on some other prospect to come up through the season to replace the lost production. Taillon - meanwhile - will be pushed back to late 2015. Add it up and you've already got some built-in excuses to explain away why we're not trying to win in 2015 either. By the time 2016 rolls around there'll be yet another round of excuses. By then some of you will be saying "maybe 2018 is our year"
