By the middle of this deal he will look and play like Ryan Howard did in his later years.

that's a pretty nice collection of players, especially if Franco gets his shit together at the plate

That outfield is going to be an adventure defensively.

The extra 3 years will be his 37, 38, and 39 seasons. I guess he figured selling those seasons for 10M a year was just found money. Who cares about AAV when you are including nonproductive seasons.

That’s how I see it too.

He’s not getting 3/30 after 10 years in all likelihood

he didn't want to play for the Nats, and the feelings were mutual. Injury prone and no loss to the clubhouse.

it's not going to be good, but it should be better than last year. Those defensive ratings are from positional adjustments.

#1 contract in terms of length

#1 contract in terms of overall $$$

#13 contract in average annual value

For right now, it's great for the Phils in that they're paying a star player a shade over $25M per, reasonable by today's standards, and it gives them flexibility to add more.

But damn, the last 3-5 years of that baby are gonna be ugly.

So ten years @ $30/year = Fuck that!

But 13 for $330..... SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD

LMFAO!!!
Well he probably wouldn't sign a 3 year 30 million dollar deal at age 36.

In 4 fewer seasons and 1999 fewer plate appearances.
Well yes, that was mostly tongue-in-cheek but the point stands that a lot of this is based off of hype rather than production.

I guess he has zero faith in his abilities to opt out say, 4 or 5 years from now, and get even more guaranteed money per year so he's just shooting for a total value right now. That fact alone should have been a giant red flag to Philly that this contract will be an albatross since it says since he didn't want an opt out, he knows he might not be good enough to get more money later on.
Harper wanted an opt out, Phils said no.
Is only an advantage to the player, if he is productive and earning less than market value he leaves or gets a better deal from the Phils. If he sucks, he stays and still gets paid.

On the flip side, that deal also could have included opt outs where he could (probably would) have gotten a pay increase.
