So ten years @ $30/year = Fuck that!

But 13 for $330..... SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD

LMFAO!!!

Him and his agent aren't very good at math LOL. But seriously, he probably thought the Nationals weren't going anywhere and he wanted to be on a team trending upwards. He specifically said he wanted more money though...that's funny. I would have to see the contract to know more details

I guess he knows he is making it up from his T-Mobile commercials

I guess he has zero faith in his abilities to opt out say, 4 or 5 years from now, and get even more guaranteed money per year so he's just shooting for a total value right now. That fact alone should have been a giant red flag to Philly that this contract will be an albatross since it says since he didn't want an opt out, he knows he might not be good enough to get more money later on.

The extra 3 years will be his 37, 38, and 39 seasons. I guess he figured selling those seasons for 10M a year was just found money. Who cares about AAV when you are including nonproductive seasons.

A giant red flag period but there is a lot of red in those Philly uniforms so it makes sense

Way I am seeing it, he would have been 36 to 37 by the time his contract ended if he took the 10 year deal. He sees that he is not getting better since 2015, and if you can add 30 million on to the backend of a contract, something he probably would have never of gotten a 3 year deal worth 30 million at that stage in his career. He is using his value now to safeguard those later years when his career is in the dumps and he has nothing left to do but show up and collect a pay check.
