Pitching has evolved. Faster for certain. Sinkers and balls in the dirt are common today. Umps are willing to call high pitches for strikes. ETC.Harper, Hoskins, Bohm and McCutchen together strike out 30% of the time.
Maton, Miller, and Herrera together strike out 30% of the time.
Gregorious and Segura K 22% and 13%, respectively.
I suppose other teams may have similar stats. More pitchers today are hitting the upper 90s and there are concerns about this in MLB.
In April, there were 1,092 more strikeouts than hits, the largest such gap in any month in major league history.
We have never seen this many hard throwers, not even close. The average velocity for a four-seam fastball is 94; 10 years ago, it was 89. Through Tuesday, 405 pitches had been thrown at 100-plus mph. In 2008, the first year of pitch-tracking data, there were 214 such pitches.
