The current face of ownership is a hated man here. Tommy Smith is abusing the Titans like Frank McCourt did the Dodgers. He sits in Houston using us like an ATM machine. Peyton Manning should really think about trying to win a Super Bowl in Denver and if it's obviously not going to work out, come play a season for the Titans to endear himself to fans and then buy a majority stake and restore this franchise to the McNair/Eddie George glory days.

Would he really need to actually play with Tennessee to be endeared with the fans? I would think he would just becoming the owner or part owner of the club and making smart football moves.

Oh believe me I know they are all about the clicks. They could care less about actually researching anything of importance. My guess is his inside source is the cleaning lady for the Manning family and he asked what Peyton's thoughts are on retiring after the season and she responded with "He hasn't really said one way or the other."

I think they should make it illegal to write an article using "inside sources." If the person does not give you permission to print their name then you shouldn't have permission to print their words. Bring back some respect to the position of reporter and make them actually have to work to get news.

No doubt. What seriously believe will happen is that Manning has two good years left in him. 3 or 4 for Brady. But if the Broncos win the SB, Manning is riding off into the sunset. If the Pats win, BB and Brady will do the same.

Hammer....My guess is that Peyton already has some favor in Tennessee because he did play his college ball at the Univ. of Tennessee. Peyton may have a net worth of $250M but you can't buy an NFL franchise on a promisary note. If he has a couple of billionaire buddies (Papa John?) and could be a minority owner ($150M) the NFL would jump to approve. Manning has a ton of "Good Will" in his portfolio.

Not many have more and his father is rich and well-connected with big money.

Valid point. But please don't get me started about the utilization of Cbs as a credible or not credible source. When released the story about the ol Fanene story, Hammer and friends were quick to call Cbs a credible source.

CBS is a credible source. Just stop. :rolleyes2:

Oh so it's only credible when it sheds the Patriots in a negative light? Got it:L

It's a credible source and has been for decades, your persecution complex notwithstanding.

I think Manning has this season and next for sure whether they win the Super Bowl or not. I think if they win it Manning will be thinking along the lines of John Elway in how he won 2 to close out his career. Manning has said that the major criteria for him to continue to play is that 1) He can still play at a very high level (I would say being 3rd in the NFL in quarterback rating looks like he is still playing well) and 2) if he still enjoys the grind of the season.

No chance in hell. Brady wont quit if he wins the SB this year. He doesn't ever want to have to retire from playing. Winning a 4th and the chance to be the first QB with 5 rings will continue to light his fire. This team is still very good. Drafting a oline guy high would be nice.

Rumors are often started by people who 'hope' something will result from it. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if this is nothing more than a rumor to get people with money off their collective butts and start looking at a franchise or two.

Tennessee, Jacksonville and Tampa Bay could be targets.

Oakland, St. Louis and possibly San Diego are starting to scratch around about moving to LA. Rumor last week was that the NFL would smile more favorably on the Chargers moving to LA. The Raiders have been there and left to go back to Oakland, I don't think the owners would be too enamored with them going back. The Rams were there for years and jumped away, why let them go back?

Just seems that there's a ton of money out there just waiting to be spent to own an NFL franchise. If I had $10-12B in my back pocket, I'd certainly be sniffing around to see if I could get beyond the vetting process. Manning is a personable man with no dirt in his resume. He'd be a perfect partner for someone looking to buy a team.

BigKen the article you posted seems more just like a writer bored at his desk and trying to think up things that could be plausible but very unlikely to happen. Anything that talks about Peyton and especially retirement for him is going to get clicks. Right now it just doesn't seem feasible for Peyton to get into ownership. The more likely route he would take is the John Elway route of being VP/GM for a team. I think he could do well at a position like that. It is a position that requires a lot of strategy and he would be one that could definitely attract FA's to come wherever he goes just like Elway has done in Denver. That to me again just makes more sense at this time. Otherwise if he spent every dime he has made he could maybe have a 5% ownership of a team in the NFL. Doesn't seem worth it for him.
