Twitter / Media is a buzz that Martin Perez has been called up to join the little Rangers...

Bullpen depth? Yu hurt? I've read it all the past hour or so.... :faint:

And just b/c someone will ask for an article....

Reports: Rangers to call Martin Perez to majors; will report Tuesday | Texas Rangers Blog

According to Twitter accounts, believed to belong to Ranger prospect LHP Martin Perez and his agent Felix Olivo, the 21-year-old lefty is about to go from being the youngest player in Triple-A to the newest member of the Rangers’ pitching staff.

Ranger officials did not respond to requests for confirmation.

According to Olivo’s account (not verified), Perez was told Monday night and he will be with the Rangers on Tuesday. Olivo’s account also mentioned, in Spanish, that it was “possible” Perez could make his MLB debut on Tuesday. It’s not clear if Olivo meant that Perez would be replacing scheduled starter RHP Yu Darvish or if Perez would be available in the Rangers bullpen.

According to a translated version of Perez’s account:

“I was called to the big leagues.”

“Tomorrow I will be with the team.”

“God’s grace by this tremendous opportunity. Thanks to everyone who helped me and especially my parents.”

As of Monday, Perez was the scheduled starter for Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday against Iowa. The Rangers considered Perez when they called up RHP Justin Grimm last week, but thought Perez was still struggling to command his fastball. Since then, he’s rolled off two impressive starts. He pitched seven innings of one-hit shutout ball against Oklahoma City on June 15 and followed it up with a nine-inning complete-game three hitter. He is 5-5 with a 4.59 ERA for the season.

On Monday, Grimm allowed six runs in one-plus inning of his second start after beating Arizona last year.

doesn't look like an injury, just depth, and giving him a taste of what the majors is like, just like Grimm, maybe a spot start before Holland is ready to be activated

And this, I don't believe Feldman will pitch in a game that matters before he is DFA'd when people start coming off the DL

Have to agree. This is what happens when you suck and then shoot your mouth off.

AAARRRGGGHHHH, this is the balance of the baseball world, no injuries last year, and now a multitude this year, and THIS is why you build organizational depth

Yup. Time to see if those arms of the future have anything in the present.

Is this some sort of payback for having a basically injury free rotation for the past 2 seasons? This is unbelievable. Let's get to the break and get some arms back. 4 of our best 7 arms currently on the DL. That is amazing.

TR Sullivan says Perez might be a candidate to start Saturday...

* Martin Perez is a candidate to start on Saturday, general manager Jon Daniels said. It will be either him or Justin Grimm with Scott Feldman starting on Thursday.

* The Rangers expect Colby Lewis to be back right after the All-Star break. The Rangers don’t expect it to be serious.

* Daniels said the Rangers are not looking for pitching in the trade market. They still believe they will start getting these guys back after the All-Star break.

* Craig Gentry is still out of the lineup with a sprained right ankle. Brandon Snyder is starting in right field.

Perez Thursday and Grimm Saturday (both against the A's) to me is much preferable to Feldman starting in any capacity

Perez started the 21st, which would make his next turn in a rotation today

The Oswalt signing is looking smarter and smarter. I still think Oswalt, Harrison, and Darvish can keep us above water until we get Holland and Colby back. Thank God we are close to the allstar break to buy our pitchers some time.

Just read Daniels doesn't expect to make major moves at the deadline because we expect to get our entire rotation back shortly after the AS break. I know that we have these young arms in the system, but I wonder if we still go out and get another top of the rotation guy. The two names that jump out at me are Grienke and Hamels. Word is that if Hamels is kept then Lee might be shopped. I don't want Lee here, fuck him. But if he is on the market maybe that helps get Grienke a little easier since Zack might be second option for most teams? Lewis is free after this year, so we have at least one spot open. We potentially have Perez, Ross, Grimm, and a few other guys that could become that 5th starter. Or we could go out and get another #1 ace (granted, which will cost a lot) for help this year and to pair with Dutch and Yu for a very potent top three followed by Harrison and whomever slots into the #5. That 5 could be Feliz or any of the young guys I listed or even some #5 FA pitcher in the offseason.

It's not my money, so I'm on board with trying to get an established Ace in here. We have a few Ace caliber guys in Holland and Yu (and looks like Harrison some times) and I love that. Compliment those two/three with a proven Ace and all of a sudden people are looking at Texas again as the best rotation and the best three man playoff rotation.
