Letang has one more year... then set to become a UFA.. tough for any GM to take, unless Letang and his new team talk extension before the trade is made...

Shero trades mostly for potential RFAs (unless trade deadline deals to bolster lineup)... if Neal was about to become a UFA when the Pens where shopping Gogo around, Shero doesn't make that deal... if Letang will be traded, I expect a potential talented RFA coming back.

I think Shero would probably try to squeeze a bit more. He always has for his defensemen trades. Probably Letang for Edler and Higgins.

i think the Canucks would be the ones needing more in a deal ... Letang has only 7 more points than Edler over the past 5 seasons ... and edler is signed to a fairly palatable long term deal (when compared to Josi who just signed long term) ... canucks would be needing to re-sign Letang who is approaching ufa

Two time Art Ross winner, Conn Smythe winner and a Hart. 9.5 for that is well worth it considering he is entering the prime of his career, right now.

As for the lack of heart... I don't see it. in the locker room after game four in the ECF, many reporters said Geno was taking it pretty hard... sat at his stall with his head in his hands for a long time, and was inconsolable.

i have seen alot of praise on the boards about Martin late this season. I thought for some reason Pens fans hated having him early this season? did he improve greatly?

Martin played awful last season and redeemed himself nicely this year. He was the most consistant D-man for Pittsburgh. After Letang kept shitting to bed on the first PP unit, Martin took over at QB and it worked wonders for the PP.

Martin turned 32 in March and is signed through the 2014-2015 season with a cap hit of 5mil. I don't think they'll try to move him in the off-season. He doesn't put up a lot on the offensive stat sheet but doesn't take stupid chances like Letang does in the offensive zone. He knows his role and what he's suppose to do.

Me personally, I see Malkin as having heart and trying... my issue with him is I don't think his hockey IQ is where it needs to be.

Shero kinds of shies away from Russians (or Euros not trained in NA) but I hear rumors that Letang to Edm for Yakupov (the core of the deal) for the two Russians to play together... I don't know though. Yakupov didn't play JRs in NA did he?

To me Malkin tries but is hockey 'dumb' compared to other superstars.

Paul Martin actually puts up nice stats.

in 34 games had 23 points and was a plus 14. More points than doughty for example who played all 48 games. Before he got injured I think he was in the top 4 in scoring amongst defenseman.

Martin had a fantastic year, but I think mgt likes Letang's upside more than Martin...

Letang has youth and more potential, but Letang will bring more back in a trade.

Malkin definitely took less than he could have received on the open market as a UFA in two years.
