I wouldn't be shocked if the holdup is over compensation. Dater was reporting back in 2009 that Roy wanted $3 million per season to coach the Avs.

If you're not familiar with Glen Sonmor's body of work, you should really do yourself a favor and look it up. A couple of times when he was coaching the St. Paul Fighting Saints in the WHA he'd get into skirmishes with fans. He was also notorious for getting into bar fights back then.

I don't know if he ever left the bench for a fight when he coached the North Stars, but he was known to have a penchant for anything involving booze, so he was half in the bag behind the bench, so it's entirely possible I guess. And it's not like he was a no namer, he did coach the North Stars to the Stanley Cup Finals where they got handled by the Islanders Dynasty.
