The Hawks are looking into making him a center. Anyone else think this a really risky/dumb move.

you are very strong at center (Towes, Sharp, Bolland, Frolik)
and very weak on wing (Hossa, Kane, and what.. Brunette?)

seems like an odd move for sure.

Is that because usually Kane needs two dudes on either side to hold him up after a night of drinking? Sort of a Weekend at Bernie's sort of deal, but with rum instead of death?

I don't think Q stache finished his thread title - Patrick Kane at center of attention.

So, what's changed?

Sharp and Frolik are really wingers who play center when needed. True centermeen on the hawks are Toews, bolland, and kruger and they don't know what to expect of him. I still think its a mistake to move Kane though.

Imo, he sometimes gets knocked off the puck a little too easy late in games. Might wear him out with a little more ice to cover, taking draws, and the added defensive responsibility. Kid could add about 15 pounds too. Who knows, maybe he hit the weights hard this summer.

caveat: I learn rosters of other teams from ESPN's webpage

I think you've discovered the problem though. They appear to have centers for all four lines and only two, or maybe three, wingers to help them. ;)

Well, if people would quit scamming the poor guy for 20 cents at a time, he could afford a couple 40 oz's to lift.

Approved.

I don't like the idea. Kane's doing well at wing and I would think that the Hawks should just shop for a bigger faceoff specialist.

yea they acutally have cap room for once and a decent enough stable of prospects.

The thing is, I believe it's easier to place a new center into a system than a new winger. Why? Because the center's responsibilities are universally the same in both ends and in the breakout. Those faceoffs are far more important that an extra couple of assists from your pivot, especially since Kane can finish.

Oh, and insert cabbie joke here. All the good ones were taken.

Of course, I'm on board with anything that makes Kane unhappy and could cause some tension with the Hawks. Thus, put him at center.

I'm sold. Now if we would just put Giroux back on the wing...

I guess he is still a star player in this league, maybe the switch will help him mature a little faster?

A better all around player. That's the main reason Johnny gets all the glory.

Johnny doesn't get the glory just for his play, it's also for his leadership and cool head. I'm not so sure that Drunken Master will ever get that kind of respect.
