I think post #3 nailed it....Matthews was a great player for GB, but either the # is retired or it's not.

This was never about what was done but how it was done.

And there is no rational argument that it's normal to give away the number of an 10 year NFL premiere player ...just 5 days after draft. (The Pack had the choice to give away his number 100 different way than this.)

It's was far from normal and it will never be normal. That was the Packers sending Matthews a message.
A message that they are really pissed about something.


If some feel that this was a non-story ....It's their right to say so.

But "how" this was done ... WAS NOT NORMAL.

Actually there is nothing unusual about it. Matthews chose to play for the Rams in his home state of California and the Packers moved on.
