I don't see a lot of his plays as creative....they're just dumb sometimes and look unprepared and poorly rehearsed.

The Bears had an entire offseason to be ready for this game and the first play from scrimmage looked awful. Spacing was bad and timing was off. What's the point of showing wildcat and then moving Mitch over to take the snap? That's not creativity....Packers weren't fooled.

Running Patterson up the gut on 3rd and short isn't creative. It's dumb.

You have talented players. Let the talent do what the talent can do best. Stop trying to force "creativity" when it's not needed.

Looking back, I don't mind the Patterson call. He played RB last year (started two games at the position, actually) and he's bigger than our other backs in short yardage.

Not to mention, as Nagy said in the post-game "It wouldn't have mattered if we had Walter Payton back there. The interior of the line got utterly blown up."

You’re a moron. You always defend this shitty franchise and they’re always shitty. That’s the definition of insanity.

Hey! There's a well thought out response! You really broke down that QB debate. You went right to the core.

Keep calling everyone disagreeing with you a "moron" in this thread. That'll really show us. It doesn't make you look childish, at all.

You are behaving like a 12 year old over one lousy football game.

You always defend this shitty franchise and they’re always shitty

Oh, like last year? When won 12 games and the division. We were so shitty, I know.

Or... like I when I told you after 2016 leading up to 2017 that there were building blocks in place for the D and a winning season was not far? Was that when I was irrationally defending them? Right before the D broke out and we won the division last year? I know, it's like "INSANE" that I did that. Right?

When you called me an idiot then, it really showed me. I mean, you criticizing me on that point back then REALLY aged well.

What makes you funny, Beengay. Is that you act like you're above all of this confrontational ad-hominem stuff on this board. Yet, the second your little feelings come into play... you are the FIRST to start name calling and throwing tantrums towards someone disagreeing with you.

No one here is doing anything besides disagreeing with you on a football topic. Yet, you just can't handle it. Can you? There's no way Beengay is ever wrong.

Mommy and daddy loved you just a little too much. That's my guess.

You're the epitome of confrontational. Yet, you mascaraed as being above it. If you weren't so phony, you wouldn't be utterly intolerable when you go through your little episodes.

TL;DR. I got better things to do than read your bears take.

Exactly as I expected. Another well thought out post. The "facepalm" really showed me this time around.

You've taken a football conversation and made it an emotional/personal jab fest.

No one is shocked.

All anyone did in this thread was disagree with you.

It's time to grow up, Beengay.

So Nagy knew his interior line was shit during the game but still called a gut run on 3rd and short and used a wide receiver/return man to run it?

Yeah Patterson is built like a RB and can play some running back....but he's not a running back. He's a return specialist mostly that can contribute some on offense. We pay 3 actual running backs to do running back stuff.

Yeah....why would anyone take issue with that?

We have a good between the tackles short yardage back in Mike Davis. We have a guy known for breaking tackles and picking up positive yardage despite getting contacted by defenders in David Montgomery. We have a speedy back that can hit corners quickly in Tarik Cohen (0 carries in this game)......yet we called on the return man to take the carry and take it right up the gut.

You wanna spend your time making apologies for shitty play calling? Go right ahead. But don't try to pretend that was a good call or an okay call. It was a stupid call. There's no defending that one.

Who said that? I never implied that Nagy knew his interior was going to get blown up or that they were likely to be.

Not to mention, this notion that "The line was getting blown up! Why run it?" totally contradicts the idea that we then should have then ran on 3rd and 1 in substitute of Nagy's screen call later on. It also contradicts the notion that we should be outraged that we didn't run more.

I'm not saying that it was the correct move. I'm simply demonstrating that it wasn't without logic. Patterson is the biggest ball carrier we have and Nagy liked the idea of using that big body to potentially push a pile. This is not some crazy thought process. Patterson is paid to be a part-time gadget/Swiss army knife for the offense. He's going to be called onto to line up at RB, WR, Slot WR... etc... This is what he's paid for.

Your incredulity does not further lament your point.

The main crux of bringing up Patterson, was that it didn't matter who was carrying the ball anyway. It was irrelevant towards the outcome of that play. It could have been Walter Payton or myself. The play would have been a loss of a couple yards and ended in the backfield.

Yeah....why would anyone take issue with that?

Caaaallllmmmm down. God, this board is touchy right now.

It was a run up the middle on 3rd and 1. It's simply not that wild.

We have a good between the tackles short yardage back in Mike Davis. We have a speedy back that can hit corners quickly in Tarik Cohen (0 carries in this game)......yet we called on the return man to take the carry and take it right up the gut.

I agree. Next go round I would rather see Montgomery get the carry. He runs hard and possesses great balance. However, it meant nothing towards the outcome of the play.

Nagy doesn't mind using personnel for multiple, unconventional purposes. If he sees an athlete that can be of use somewhere - he'll use him. It's a reason we were excited about him last year. I didn't see people bitching when he used Akiem Hicks in short yardage. Sitting and acting totally outraged and shocked when he does it this year... because it didn't go his way this time? It's just... like everything currently happening on this board and with this fan-base... an overreaction. People are just emotional and need someone to blame for everything.

Nagy sucked. Trubisky sucked. I don't dispute that. They need to get their shit together. However, someone on this forum has to push back against this disgusting self-pity and TRY to talk people into putting the gun down from their own head.

The interior line being blown up doesn't mean you can't run the ball. It means you shouldn't run blatantly up the middle. Especially with a return man.

Patterson might be a big body but that doesn't mean he's the type of guy that pushes piles. Mike Davis is paid to push piles. David Montgomery was drafted to break tackles and get yards after contact.

The play call itself is what I have a problem with the most. The personnel used is second. Both are valid complaints.

Caaaallllmmmm down. God, this board is touchy right now.

I am as calm as I want or need to be right now.

It was a run up the middle on 3rd and 1. It's simply not that wild.

With a return man. Behind an interior line that hadn't gotten their feet set yet. From an obvious run formation.

From a "creative" coach.

I bitched when he used Hicks in short yardage. I bitched when I saw Sowell get his number called in the endzone. I bitched when he used the two QB dropback formation. I bitched every time I saw wildcat.

I'd love to see a chart that shows every time Nagy used an unconventional formation and the result of each play. It's easy to point to the Hicks touchdown.....what about the botches we've seen....including the first play from scrimmage Thursday.

Too many plays from needless formations that fool no one that result in nothing. You have talent that can play football the conventional way and play it well....stick to that.

My gun is safely locked away at the moment and it's likely to stay there.

I'm complaining about the garbage I saw on the field Thursday night. If you don't like it....don't read it and don't respond to it. I don't know what else to tell you.

If you wanna play Nagy apologist....you're gonna get some shit flung your way. Deal with it or cry about it....either way it's gonna happen.

i don't post much here because i've basically become a fair-weather bears fans. that said, i was all set to see a real good bears game on thursday based on their apparent trajectory and instead watched yet another bears team that yet again disappointed everyone. i think trubisky made it clear he's not a big time q-back in terms of instinct and field awareness (and in year 3 i'm tempted to suggest he never will be) and that nagy isn't the brightest play caller. there were some awfully stupid calls imo.

how long will the defense bust its nuts for this kind of offense before they get too discouraged to try that hard?

No, I just don’t care what you have to say anymore. You’re always wrong.

Hardly... you're very into the personal nature of this board. Everyone else likes talking football. You bury your head in the sand every time you get it wrong and go running back a year-plus to bring up a thread when you were correct.

Let's just talk football

Again, we're missing the point entirely. I am merely bringing up a point of view which is contrarian to yours... and not even by nearly as much as you think. I agree that the short yardage play calls were bad. My point is that the calls were not from another world, as some are suggesting.

I could just as easily say the same thing to you. "Don't read, don't respond"... so... that accomplishes nothing.

Hardly apologizing for Nagy. I don't know how much more clear that I could be that I think he sucked. Do you want me to hang a banner in front of your house saying it? I've said over and over.

I mean, the first play from scrimmage Thursday. Cohen dropped a ball that was perfectly in his hands. Not sure what anyone else did wrong.

Nagy's track record with goal line trickeration and 2 point conversions was fantastic. HOw many games didn't have a successful trick or unconventional play? Some had multiple. TB, NYG, LAR, etc.

Too many plays from needless formations that fool no one that result in nothing.

Except most of these plays have rendered good results.

I agree with you on this. He needs to tone down the "cute". However, there's no reason to rule out some creativity either (I can see you hate that word). Belichick invented half of the shit Nagy does and uses it often. He just needs to balance it more.

The spacing on that play was bad. The timing was way off. That's why Cohen was in the wrong spot and didn't receive the ball well. It was just all bad.

I wouldn't call the track record fantastic. There have been some fun plays. But there have also been a lot of miscues and bad ones.

If you have more talent than the other side...I much rather just line up and play football. The occasional trick play is fine...but it should be done when your team has already learned to walk and run. This offense is currently in the crawling stage.

Belichick invented half of the shit Nagy does and uses it often. He just needs to balance it more.

Belichick evolved his offense over time. When Brady was young the Pats were a run first, boring, dink and dunk offense. As Brady progressed Belichick opened it up. And in each passing season as Brady learned and grew more...Belichick and his staff added more and more layers to it.

Mitch still looks like a deer in headlights at times. Nagy should be making things simple for him, not harder.
