What sports injuries have you had throughout your life? What sport were you playing at the time? What was the result of the injury(ies)? How long were you out of "action"?

I've been forunate enough to only have suffered 1 major injury in my lifetime. Doc's think that it is from my time playing baseball. I think that it's from my time pitching or hitting and not from the time I played at 1st or 3rd. I had played baseball for 6 years before I was diagnosed with OsteoChondritis Dissecans of the knee, commonly called OCD (for the record I do not have a obsesively compulsive knee). What in the world is OCD of the knee you ask? Well, I can't explain it enough to make sense of it. So I'll let Wikipedia do it for me:

Osteochondritis dissecans - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It was discovered by my high school trainer after I was being treated for a knee sprain while I was wrestling and not while I was playing baseball. He sent me to a doctor and got an MRI. The doctor found the condition and put me on crutches for 2 months in order to let it heal itself (which ussually happens if it isn't strained by too much activity).

2 months later, nothing changed. So they needed to make a different injury to confuse my body to heal the other injury. So they drilled 3 holes into my knee cap. I was unable to put weight on my leg for a month and had crutches for another 5 months. I was on crutches for a total of 7 months! Sucked pretty bad, but it healed for the most part. But it ended my baseball career at the young age of 16. Still bothers me some to this day, but I miss baseball more than it hurts

Anyone got an injury story?

I have been lucky. Just dislocated the first joint on a finger on my right hand when I smashed it off of the rim playing basketball in HS.

Never had it reset and it looks kinda funky.

Ouch!

Nothing too much here. I have a misshapen finger from playing football when I was 18 or so. Someone was wearing a mesh type jersey and when I grabbed him my finger went into one of the holes and was twisted as he went down. I thought it was sprained but when the swelling went down it was oddly shaped. My parents sent me to the doctor who talked about surgery and rehab but I said no thanks. You wouldn't even notice now unless you were looking for it.

Busted ribs a few times. Broken nose but right at the bottom above the lip so no lasting marks.

A few years ago I was on my treadmill when the power went out so it stopped suddenly and awkwardly. A few days later my knee was hurting so I went to the doctor. He MRI'd me and told me I wasn't injured from anything but there was a blister/bubble thing on a piece of cartilage on my knee. He called it some type of arthritis and told me to do some stretching exercises. I did them for weeks without any change, then all the sudden the pain went away. I still do the stretches a couple times a week and I rarely feel any pain.

Non sports: broke my arm, more broken ribs, very ugly broken toe 3 years ago

There was a kid that used to play football with us that played QB and pitched for one of the better schools in the city who was being scouted by Stanford to play baseball. He blew his knee out playing pickup football with us. I was way down the field and could still hear the awful pop and scream. The guy was (and still is) a real prick but I feel bad that happened to him.

Sprains, strains, tears, pulled muscles. Nothing major. The worst was a partial tear in Achilles tendon. I guess, soccer is a safe sport ;)

broken radius/ulna diving head first for a ball in a baseball tournament in victoria, bc when i was 14 ... tip of glove caught a rut in the grass (field was used for rugby) and i kept sliding ... caught the ball ... went to get up and show the ball in glove to 2nd base ump ... something didnt feel right ... swearing ensued ... left me with a traumatic looking forearm speed bump

Baseball - broken nose, knocked out. Running from 1st to 2nd, collided with 2nd basemen.
Basketball - scratched cornea - finger to eye
Hockey - groin pull, hit in eye with puck. Just a bruise, but found out eye injuries can lead to vomiting (glad it wasn't my car).....

From what I read a few years ago, a lot of stats state that baseball is the most dangerous sport.
Hockey, if you get knocked on your ass at least your skate doesnt stick in the ice like football spikes can on grass. Thats where a lot of the leg injuries happen

Actually I missed one, Don't know if this qualifies as a sports injury but I blew out my first back disc in a batting cage.

Backs never been the same since esp after three surgeries and fusions.

Jammed my index finger playing intramural volleyball in college...the knuckle is still bigger than the other index finger knuckle to this day...I'm 6'0 tall and a went up for a block on a spike from a 6'7 player...took the entire brunt of the spiked ball on my one finger, yet I still blocked the ball to the back of the other court for a point.

I won't get into my bad knee from 25 years of bowling ...

nothing too serious, fortunately.

2 graded concussions, probably a few more that i just 'walked off'
nose broken three times: one baseball, one hockey, and and once at a Judas Priest concert
nasty high ankle sprain playing baseball (slid into 2nd, caught a rut).
- couldn't walk properly after that one for a few months. Doc said a break would be easier.
lost a chicklet after a hockey stick in the mouth
random stitches after pucks in the chin, cheek, eyebrow (on separate occasions)
broke my finger, but didn't want to get it splinted during the playoffs. by the time I got to the doctor, it had healed too much to easily fix. So I have a little speed-bump on the bone. that knuckle always hurts, too.
