Ok, a step on the foot... BUT a clear dive! It did not affect him nearly as much as that flop appeared

I can see it from watching the full speed/full look at it. I think what bugs me a bit more is that the officials are maddeningly inconsistent about it. I've seen about 5 or so fouls in the box go without a shot this tourney, and that's not watching every game...and the officials never have the balls to make the call. Just a bit quizzical when the call comes in the final minute of a tied game, with everything on the line.

Still don't see how that's a PK at any point in the game, much less the final minute of injury time. The refs reserve only the obvious and egregious fouls for a penalty shot - I don't think this meets that standard. I think it's a bad call.

If you call it there then you MUST call it about 20-30 times in a match and it is not... In order for it to be a penalty kick in that situation it must be a CLEAR cut penalty! That was not clear imo

Wow you guys are nuts. If that last angle I showed didn't convince you it was a penalty then you are nuts.

I will agree that they miss others, but that one is indisputable. Samaras has a clear line to the ball, and right as he was winding up, his shooting leg is taken out by a defender who makes no attempt at the ball.

Seriously, it's as clear as it gets, give your head a shake if you think otherwise.

PS I got called for a similar foul last week in my rec league. I knew exactly what I was doing. It's a risk worth taking, but sometimes it backfires. That defender knew exactly what he was doing too.

It's one of the most obvious fouls I can imagine. And time of game is irrelevant, keep your dirty hockey logic outta here!

That was a rightly awarded penalty for Greece. The Ivory Coast defenseman is not allowed to impede the forwards shooting leg. I don't know how it is up for debate.

Agree 100%. That is pretty weak. And yes I haven't played soccer at any competitive level. Nevertheless I don't think that play should decide a game.
