Ever since they "rebooted" the Star Trek franchise and rewrote the history, I've lost interest. Thank goodness for my DVDs and Blurays.

So did anybody see this today in the 48 frames per second? I'm curious if they noticed a difference and what they thought.

saw it today. it was a little noticeable for graphics on indoor shots but once your eyes got into it it really blended in. it was gorgeous. not fake like people said. it really did enhance the world of middle earth. I really enjoyed this movie. it didnt blow me away like Fellowship of the Ring but it was a very comfortable return to Middle Earth. It was very Hobbit.... the whole mood

Cool. Thanks, matty. Glad you enjoyed it. And yeah, I think we'd all like to live a little more like hobbits.

you got that right. would be so much easier. I hope people go in with proper expectations. dont go in expecting the same feeling you get from Fellowship as a Tolkien fan. it is fantastic to me but a different type.

Sounds good, I will try to go next week.

Ever since they "rebooted" the Star Trek franchise and rewrote the history, I've lost interest. Thank goodness for my DVDs and Blurays.

That was the best part to me, the time line change allowed them to honor the past and allow the new movies to not follow the old ones exactly. I thought it was a good idea.

I am looking forward to seeing Alice Eve in a form fitting Star Fleet uniform.

Saw it last night with 8 friends, and had a lengthy discussion about it.

For wide shots, it was stunning. The landscapes were so vivid. The texture of the shots reminded me of the Planet Earth series. It was georgeous. Even on a non-IMAX screen, it looked better than any IMAX I've seen.

The first couple of scenes with people was disorienting. It felt like I was watching a BBC historical re-enactment. The best term I could come up with was "Hyper-real". The way people moved felt very strange. Everything was definitely sharper, but as a consequence some scenes with a lot of CGI seemed faker.

I guess we get used to certain styles of film associated with the material. Nature documentaries look a certain way. Soap operas, sitcomes, news broadcasts in HD, they all look a little different. And cinema was no different - the 24 fps gave a certain blur, a 'cinematic' quality. HFR changes that, and some people will hate it. Personally, it jarred a little bit in some scenes, but wowed in others, and I think the payoff will be worth it in the future. We'll look back on 24 fps the same way we might look at an old grainy VHS on our 50' HD televisions.

For the movie, I loved it. It's not LOTR. It's not an epic, or a quest movie. It's an adventure movie. Once you accept that, it's a lot of fun. It's goofier, more comedy. Different tone. A few complaints (one unnecessary scene on the mountain-side, and a lot of things recycled from LOTR) but overall great to be back in Middle-Earth!

without giving spoilers I did feel that the first 5 mins were incredibly forced. could have done without it or just a voice overlap.

I liked the first three movies, but I was surprised about all the war. I knew their would be some, but it was a bit much.

There's enough violence going on the world today. If it's similar in this respect to the other three movies I'll probably pass on seeing it in the theatre.

Pretty much agree with the above posts. It takes some getting used to. At first it may seem like a blur but once your "in" it, it's stunning. Several times I felt that if I looked away for a few seconds, it took a couple seconds of adjusting before getting back in the zone.

Overall, I loved it. Also mentioned above, it's not LOTR. I think thats why it is getting some bad reviews, but once you accept that it is not it is very enjoyable. Already pumped for the next one.
