Nice. reminded my a bit of Dave Matthews band at times.
might have been the shuffly beat on drums.

in that vein: you might like the Old 97s
a short little song, really nice lyrics, but gives you an idea.

No, I like "You've Got a Friend In Me." It's just most of his Hollywood stuff I find to be crap.

hmmm...thanks puck, i do like! and there is a underlying DMB sound to it. but what i like is that the lead singer doesn't sound so strained (like DM...his voice is kinda ehhh). there's some awesome lyrics in mumford and sons lyrics too...

Said them before, and I'll say them again. Project 86! This video in particular. Watch very closely. (You might need to pause this a few times;))

terrific. that's why I dig these threads.
I will check out more of Mumford & Sons too.

If you dig intelligent songwriting, you might want to check out Billy Bragg as well.
He never quite made it big in North America, but the dude is a legend (if you can get past the accent :) )
Which is kind of cool, because it means you get to see him in small venues when he tours over here. The last show of his I saw was just him and his guitar plugged into a small combo amp, in a cathedral. I lucked out and ended up in the first pew, what an amazing sonic experience.

I could pick about 50 great songs from him, but here is the song that initially got me hooked:

he also did a couple of albums with the guys from Wilco, to write and record music for a bunch of recently discovered Woody Guthrie lyrics.

The second album of Days of the New. They got hit action from their first album with "Down Town", "Shelf in the Room" and "Touch, Peel, and Stand" and toured with Metallica and Jerry Cantrell, but, their second album is much more polished.

First song:

YouTube - Days of the New - Flight Response

On a personal note, spent some time with relatives over the weekend and heard some stuff my uncle recorded with Terry Jacks and the Chessman in Nashville 45 years ago, but, the band broke up shorty afterward so no album was released at the time.... but it is now. Two live tracks, at the end of the cd, sound like the birth of Grunge. Seriously.

The Chessmen, 50, 's, 60's & 70's Rock Bands of the Pacific Northwest
