Stance: Goofy
Watching the VMAs lastnight was the first time I really felt, not old, but like an adult. It was baffling to me, did not connect with me on any sort of level and I felt confused. 10 years ago we had Britney, Madonna and Christina locking lips, this year we had Miley dancing with bears. I just don't know anymore.
I have felt that way for a while. I've always hated "music" that was style over substance.
Back in the day, I ignored Madonna and New Kids on the Block. When I was in the record store biz it was Nsync and crap like 2 live crew. Now it's Miley and that Gaga twat. It's all the same. All hat, no cattle. Not to say you can't be flashy, but BACK THAT SHIT UP. Elton John, David Bowie, Queen - stuff like that.
I was very gad when my son was looking at Foo Fighters videos and started following the "You might like" links. He went to my CD collection and pulled out some stuff for me to put on his MP3 player (Soundgarden, Audioslave, and Paramore). I am adding The Cult, Soul Asylum, and Urban Dance Squad.
Maybe I need to get some Bowie and Queen on there...
