Pity they didn't, either. I don't know how you fail to put together a contender with Griffey, Randy, Martinezey and A-Rod as your core.

Yay, so much happier we got JA Happ!

:gaah:

Happ will be a fine #3 type guy. Now, about giving him that kind of money...uhhhh...yeah. Eventually all of Ray Searage's reclamation projects are going to have to come together and buy him a nice car or something. Happ had two good months. TWO MONTHS.

2015 Team IP K% BB% BABIP ERA FIP xFIP fWAR
Seattle Mariners 108.2 17.5% 6.8% .319 4.64 4.12 4.15 1.2
Pittsburgh Pirates 60.1 27.7% 5.2% .299 1.85 2.19 2.90 2.1

So, if you get Pittsburgh Happ, congrats that's a steal. And if it makes you feel any better, there are examples of Searage reclamation projects having success the next year with a different team. Volquez had a pretty decent year.

Happ was here for 2 years before he went to the M's. I'm taking his Pittsburgh stint as exception, not rule.

Toronto is now paying 2 #5 starters $25 million this year, and hoping Estrada can replicate last season in the #2 or 3 spot. I see no way this fails.

Well, considering everything I've read seems to point to them being out of the Price race...I am left wondering what exactly their pitching will look like. That was the question pretty much all year about them, then they acquire Price...but now they're sort of in the same boat. I mean, I think Happ at his peak is a #2, but I don't see that as a consistent thing at all. The one hope for him though is that his peripheral stats were still pretty decent before the Searage renaissance.

I mean, I'm fine with bringing in Happ, even for that cost. I just don't want them relying on him as a 2 or 3.

Scariest part is they are probably gonna give Hutchinson another go and that was a nightmare last year. If that's the case, the rotation is probably set with Stroman-Estrada-Happ-Dickey-Hutch. That...that isn't very good.

Considering Dickey can implode whenever....yeah, no. I wouldn't feel comfortable with that rotation. Not in the AL East. It may not be the powerhouse it once was, but it still has power bats all over.
