What a weekend around my town:

A murder, two blocks up the street (I was actually standing in the carport where the body was found, literally just a few hours before it happened).

A kayaker missing; his kayak and truck found but nothing else (I actually knew the guy well and jammed with him quite a bit)

A barge sinking with two still missing; one rescued.

A car accident death.

Hot damn.

Glad none of this shit happened to you.

To lighten the mood a little, I'll ask this -

Why the hell were you in Detroit on Saturday and Sunday??

We could be called Detroit north after this is weekend. :L

Also, forgot to add that the Subway up the street was robbed on the weekend, and a woman tried to commit suicide but officers were able to make it to the scene before she died. We've had sixty two suicides between 2001 and 2011 in Campbell River.
:omg:

Sorry BB, that's a rough weekend, I hope this week is better for you and your family.

Thanks, dash. Luckily, the only thing that really affected me on a personal level was the missing kayaker. Still though, what a turn of events over the weekend.

I was bored, so I came up with this Cris Collinsoworth impersonation:

cris-collinsworth-nbc.jpg

Hey, well let me tell you about the time that Philip Rivers guy was brought in to help get a cat out of a tree back in his High School days at Athens High School down in Alabama. Those patriotic firefighters were like, "Whoa, man! That cat is really up there! Maybe Philip Rivers can help us!" Well wouldn't you know it, but just at that same exact time, Rivers comes along with his arm around his girlfriend and his other arm around a football. Philip, the good man that he is, surveys the situation, tells his girlfriend - "Stay here, Hon...they need me" races over to the firefighters and the poor little pussycat sittin' up in the tree. Well that Philip Rivers takes three steps back, throws the ball up in the air with a perfect spiral, hits the cat dead center and by golly gee if the cat doesn't land in a pool several blocks away without so much as a whisker out of place. Even now, the firefighters of Athens, Alabama refer to Philip Rivers as "Flea Flicker."

(No parenthesis added for the full Collinsworth effect)

Wow, that is just horrible. He was rated as one of the top three minor league prospects before this season. Life is crazy. Never take it for granted.

Prayers to his family and his gf's :rip:

I have been thinking about this tragic story with Oscar Tavares and I can't help but recall the story of former Penguins draft pick Michel Briere.

Briere only played one NHL season, but saw the Penguins make the post-season, and was their leading scorer that year in the playoffs, and was also a part of the Pens first post-season series victory over the Oakland Seals. He scored 3 game winning goals in that playoff year.

In the spring of 1970 he was severely injured in a car accident, and though he didn't die right away, Briere was in a coma for about 11 months until he was pronounced dead.

The parallels between Briere and Tavares are pretty apparent. Young, highly touted and talented draft pick, only plays one season of professional baseball/hockey. Makes a post-season impact, and dies in a car accident in the off-season.

Tragic stuff

I don't rememeber that, but to be honest, I've erased quite a bit of Vancouver Grizzlies NBA history from my mind.

/Surprised there would be any burgers left after Bryant Reeves was done.

10-0 in the 7th.

Safe to say this one's going to a game 7. Looking forward to it.

That game was the blown Denkinger call at first base, wasn't it?

Edit: When you google search for Don Denkinger, you get "People also searched for Jim Joyce"
