OT: Here We Go Again, People Shot at the Empire State Building

NEW YORK (AP) — New York City officials say several people have been shot outside the Empire State Building and that the gunman is dead.

City police say three or four civilians have been wounded in the Friday morning shooting and that the shooter is dead.

A fire department spokesman says it received a call about the shooting just after at 9 a.m. Friday and that emergency units were on the scene within minutes.

The spokesman had no information about how many people were wounded or their conditions.

The shooting occurred at 34th Street and Fifth Avenue.

That's been par for the course for Chicago for the past few months. New York is constantly ranked as the safest big city in the country/world. This type of stuff does not happen often, especially in midtown Manhattan which is the financial center of the world. Add the fact that New York has pretty much the strictest gun control laws in the country and this is a very bizarre event.

We have spent the last twenty or so years conditioning people that they are not responsible for their lot in life and helping them figure out who is to blame. No surprise that people act out.

just saw it was across the city. funny how the press want to highlight mass shootings but almost ignores 19 shootings in one night which is pretty sad.

Senseless gun violence is horrible regardless, but there is a difference between idiots going at in on the outskirts of Chicago in the middle of the night and somebody opening fire in the business district of New York at rush hour.

A lot of crazy people in the world. From what I have seen he had a 45 cal and shot his former boss 3 times. 9 others was wounded and 1 other died. He was then shot by police that fired 14 rounds.

I am wondering if the some of the injured or killed was from police bullets as well.

In any case a terrible waste of life due to a crazy person.

I hate that people now believe they have the right to control other, innocent people's lives. If you want to end your life, do it, but don't involve other people. Even the people that survive, let's say you got hit in the shoulder or hip, that doesn't just heal up in a week and then everything is fine. There is going to be nerve, muscle, tissue damage for the rest of their lives or at least for many years to come. What did they do to deserve that?

To me, that's an odd conclusion. Not sure where we are teaching people they are not responsible for things... and not sure, even if that's true, how it relates to (largely) mentally ill people going on shooting sprees.

What I have now seen was that the gunman had a 1911 45 cal. 8 round mag. Which means that most he could have had was 9 rounds. That is a big if cause he could have had extra mags.

News is reporting that 8 out of the 9 were hit by police fired bullets which really sucks. I feel so bad for those cops. They got put into a impossible situation..a guy shooting and they have to return fire to stop it. Terrible news.

I hope it's not true but it very well could be. I always sympathize with police. This is a situation that nobody should be put in. They are trying to do the right thing and could wind up getting crucified for it. Just an all around shitty situation.
