Yeah, I agree. Also, what's up with the conciliatory Voldemort towards the end? "Okay, we've destroyed the chose one, now who wants to join us. We'll even relax the bloodline rules a little." Wouldn't Potter's allies be filled with rage and strike at him? Wouldn't Voldemort be psyched Harry Potter was gone and destroy the few remaining people who had opposed him to set an example? This is a guy who had killed people at the thought of their allegience not being with him or just on a whim. It just didn't work for me. Don't know if that's in the book or an invention of the movie.

Don't forget that he had already been weakened by the destruction of three of four cruxes and a failing wand.

Fair enough. It was just one of a number of things that had me thinking/confused at the end instead of enjoying all the action.

And I'm not a movie goer that gets pulled out of my suspension of disbelief easily. I usually just enjoy the ride.

You may have a point.

Let me just say that I would rather have had someone take this movie to a more dramatic, epic level. Maybe Peter Jackson should have made the last film. IDK. All I know is that I left the theater thinking that the ending could have been better.

Like I said I haven't seen the last film yet. When I do, probably this week, I may leave the movie feeling underwhelmed by the ending like you did. From reading the book I do feel the battle should be epic at the end.

Now I wish I had seen it already!

I thought it was fine. Always been a bit underwhelmed by the movies but in my mind this was clearly the best one. One caveat, i can read shit several times, slowly, paying close attention to detail...and still forget what i fucking read a week later. Upshot of this is that i'm usually not a stickler for details in movies based on books ive read. Soooo. Ive reAx this whole series twice, including the last book less than 6 months ago, and enjoyed the movie warts and all since i didnt know where the fucking warts were...yay.

By the way, did we ever have a thread like this for game of thrones?

Eloco, read the book. You'll be much more pleased. Except perhaps with the Harry living part...I'm not sure that was the plan the whole time though. JKR wrote the last chapter of the last book before anything else, was that the last chapter, meaning post final battle, or last chapter as in the epilogue.

I havent seen the movie yet but I am curious if Mrs. Weasley has her big line at the end like she did in the book. The one with the bad word in it.

Don't mess with my daughter, bitch!!!

Seriously my favorite line in the book. "NOT MY DAUGHTER YOU BITCH!" then BAM dead. Perhaps the only line I enjoyed more was the tattoo discussion in the 6th book. That was funny.

Also, I started reading Sorcerer's Stone last night. Got 100 pages in.

Okay *steps up on soapbox* this is an example of inconsistency in the film. When Bellatrix dies she just POOF disintegrates. Not really how JKR explains it, but it'd be fine...if that's how people always died in the movies. Anyway, that's the Mrs. Weasley epic line.

My favorite humorous part was in Book 3 when Harry asks Ron whether he's seen anything yet (Crystal ball class). Ron said yeah, there was a burn on the table where someone dropped their candle.

That was my basic feeling as well.

7.9 movies in and then the ending seemed very...quick.

I had visions of a giant Helm's Deep or Minas Tirith kinda thing, and was a bit disappointed.

SPOILERS

Yeah in the book, it's done differently. Voldemort doesn't "ask" people to come over. He says something along the lines of - The house of my ancestor will be good enough for everyone now (meaning Slytherin obv) - and then summons the Sorting Hat, presumably to destroy it since he's calling for no more Sortings.

Neville trying to be a boss, and rallies the crowd with cheers of Dumbledore's Army. Then, Voldemort basically is like who the hell are you...Neville tells him...Voldie is all "Cool, pureblood" and tries to get him to come over to his side. Neville says he'll join him when Hell freezes over.

Then Voldemort paralyzes him (temporarily) and puts the Sorting Hat on his head and sets it on motherfucking fire. The paralyzing doesn't keep because Harry "died" to protect them all, so Voldemort's spells aren't having any staying power. So Neville takes the Sword of Gryffindor from the Sorting Hat (which appears because Neville is a brave badass in need) and slices the head off the damn Snake.

So in the book, Voldemort doesn't let Neville have this long soliloquy. He's basically making an example out of him and torturing him for the hell of it.

I saw it last night, I thought it was well done. Some of the effects were great.

I saw it in 3d, only because that show was the only one late enough for me to make, which was reasonably well done. Most of it was depth stuff instead of things flying out at you.

Still have not seen either a 3D movie or 3D television. Still wondering if it will catch on or not. I assume it will be perfected eventually.

a worthy ending to a worthy franchise. incredibly done for the years it spanned. amazing that none of the kids actually went awkward over time (well maybe Draco). Rupert Grint just well fit into his gingerness. I am really impressed with the last movie was the best one. the 2nd best was 1 but part 1 of the deathly hallows was very good as well. I was really happy that the adults of the last movie finally got to stand up and show. Fiennes was unbelievable in his performance of He who cannot be named. VOLDEMORT..... yeah I said it. hes dead .... again :)

I knew that would happen with Snape not so much in that way ( I never read the books but might now). It didnt have the closure in the end I got out of the Lord of the Rings trilogy but many complained about how long that was (minus some changes etc). I thought it was really perfect for the fans of that franchise. this was very good as well for the 19 years later and I got the real sense that they all were in their mid/late 30's

I was impressed I could go through the whole franchise without any potheads giving away any major spoilers.

That's exactly the type of shit critics would have HATED. I'm okay with them eliminating that really, for this format. If they did some sort of miniseries they could include it.

The R/H kiss was far superior to the H/G first kiss.

i gotta say it was pretty good (the R/H kiss) and the giggle right after. I think there was no way they could make the H/G kiss as impactful after that one.
