Draco was in the castle taking part in the battle and she knew this. She was asking Harry if he was still alive (of course Harry had saved his life so he was) or if he had died in the battle. She no longer cared about who had won at this point, and just wanted her son back. She knew the only way the fighting would stop and they would be allowed to all go to Hogwarts (and she could collect Draco) was as part of the victorious army. So she lied.

A nice tie-in with JKR's "doing the right thing comes back to help you" theme.
