I went in May. Totally nerded out, twas amazing. And the BUTTERBEER. Heaven in a cup.

So very much this. Went in June and loved every second of it. They did a great job with it.

As for the movies, I started last week watching all of them in order again leading up to the new one. And it really is a phenomenal story. So very well developed. I like how Rowling includes all kinds of things that you don't realize the importance until later. The first magical creature that Harry meets (Griphook) plays a key role leading to the end. The characters are just so well intertwined.

As for how much the movies deviated from the books... well I can't be too upset about that. At least they didn't absolutely destroy the stories like they typically do with Stephen King or that Godwaful Hitchiker's Guide movie. They got close to 90% right. That's gotta be some kind of record.

Although, I probably would have preferred the ending for the Malfoy family to be more like the book.

I, too loved Maggie Smith in this one. And was really impressed with Helena Bonham Carter. The scene where she is playing Hermione playing Bellatrix had me looking to see if they had just had Emma Watson in Bellatrix makeup. That was a great scene. I also think they did a great job with the "Snape Story". Rickman's best part of the whole series. And he was amazing.

Helena Bonham Carter is a great actress. She was very very good in the King's Speech as well.

Hellena Bonham Carter may be the best actress I've ever seen. Just...so incredible. Maggie did steal the show with the "I've always wanted to do that!" line. Brilliant. They really have had some top end actors/actresses come be a part of the movies. Ralphe Finnes is top notch. Amongst many others. To comment on Harry Potter World...I AM DYING TO GO. I went to a party the day of the release (I'm a geek, okay?) and one girl there had just returned. She told us about Ollivander's and how she was chosen to be given a wand. It's just like the books. A pot explodes with the first, boxes fly with the second, and the third "chooses" you and a spotlight falls on you and wind blows. EPIC.

I think the part that had me the most emotional in the movie, outside of Harry walking into the forest (still chokes me up) was Snape holding Lily's body and breaking down after her death.

I loved the movies, read some of the books, not all...but I think because 1. HP was written for my age group/generation from beginning to end and 2. I experienced the release parties and anticipation, I'll always have a special love for it.

Anddddddd waterworks.

I read the first three books as a kid, but wasn't much of a reader. Once they got to like 400+ pages I had no interest. I'm sure I'd like it. I leech on to stories and such rather quickly. I remember feeling sad when Star Wars and LOTR ended. I'm sure I'd feel the same way. Not just because of the stories, but the fact that they had been doing the movies for a decade and now it all came to a close and I did enjoy the first three that I read. It's just another story that has come to a close that will be considered one of the best media franchises created.

I'm a big pussy when it comes to stuff like that. I get teary eye'd at the stupidest stuff.

I was 11 when it came out--EVERYONE in my class read it. It was kinda cool like that--nothing like that has happened since. Like I stated before I was too much of a non-reader to continue.

I might pick up all 7 of them at some point and give it another go. I know it is certainly worth reading again.

Yeah, I have a rather addictive personality (hello hockey). When I find something I like I become PASSIONATE for it. Examples being hockey and Harry Potter. I become completely absorbed to the point of being a geek. I'm a serious HP geek. It's gotten better since the books ended, but for like a few months after the books were done I read...*sigh* FanFiction. It was a way of trying to hold on to something that was done. Then the stories started to suck, so I stopped. Hah. And yeah, I cry quite easily. I honestly would've cried more in the last film, but there was a girl in front of me openly sobbing...and it was too amusing to cry. Also, in that goodbye clip, what really got me was Rupert Grint (who had to leave the premiere because he was emotional) crying. :(

I think I'm gonna re-read them (though I can't find Chamber of Secrets ((almost wrote "my" there...then re-thought things)) ). It's been awhile since I've read the first few. I've read the 7th so many times now. I almost regret reading those books so fast...especially the last. I got it at midnight, didn't put it down for 5 straight hours, took a 2 hour nap, and woke up to finish it after another 5-6 hours. Didn't soak it up.

I haven't seen any of the movies past Goblet of Fire and think I'll read the books first to not spoil it (I mean I know the big picture).

Be sure to read the 4th even though you've seen the movie. It's a great book. REALLY good, and it's when the series takes a mature turn (clearly with Voldemort being fully alive).

One of the best moves of the series was cutting out Hermonie's house elf liberation attempt. Snooze city.

I felt the same way when Star Trek ended, especially TNG.

I'm not a big HP fan, but my wife is, so I've seen all of the movies - from 3 onwards on opening weekend (except for 7A because she didn't want to see that in the theatre since it didn't really end - we watched that on bluray this week only).

This was better than most of them, but the earlier point about the horcruxes (Pix, I think that was you making it) was very true. My wife explained to me in the car on the way home the basic concept of them. I understood they needed to destroy them, but not really why and all that.

As for the other movies in the series, I remember 1 and 2 being OK, if a bit long, given that they were geared to the 10-15 age bracket.

3 was very meh until the ending where, for me, it nose-dived to terrible status. They spent the whole movie think SB is so evil and scary, then they meet him and it basically goes SB: "No Harry, I'm the good guy." HP: "Oh, he's the good guy, let's trust him." I understand that scene was better in the book, but it was very poorly done IMO and killed the whole thing for me.

4 was OK also, though I thought this introduced a plot element that was not really carried (in the movies at least) - the other wizard schools. Are we really to believe Voldemort only wanted to destroy Hogwarts/England? Why didn't they get help from the other schools?

5 was a total waste of time except for the very end (which, to my understanding is mostly what people said about the book). The whole thing with the woman taking over Hogwarts didn't mean much, and I thought the scene where SB dies was poorly done because you don't really know that he's dead until much later.

6 I don't remember too well honestly, so I won't say anything on that.
