My sister going with to see it with my 54-year old father on Wednesday! Try again. Haha.

Seriously have never met anyone who read them and didn't like them (and when I say that, I mean at least the first three).
Maybe someday I'll give the first book a try.

Goblet of Fire was probably my second favorite book (after Deathly Hallows) and my second least favorite movie.

That was such a long book though...but yeah, 4-5-6 took a severe dip in the movies, after the first 3 did a decent job (MUCH EASIER in comparison).

I honestly didn't love the first one. That is - I liked it at the time - but can't really rewatch it. I'll rewatch all the others.

I really do encourage people to give the books a try if they haven't. Seriously engrossing. JKR has a writing style that I'd kill for. Just seems to come so easily to her.

I mean, the plot of the first book is very dry in comparison to the action packed last 4.

The plot is just much more kiddish (obviously necessarily so and I still enjoy reading that first book). That's generally why I encourage people to read the first three. The third one is where you can definitely see this is something very, very special.

Just had a friend finish the series a week ago! She was borrowing them from me. Loved them and is now watching all the movies.

I think it was my favorite of the books, and my 2nd least favorite movie as well.. Half-Blood Prince was an awful adaption of the book

Goblet of Fire also randomly didn't tell about half the story - Crouch stuff - that made it such a cool plot twist. Oh, and the maze sucked.

I liked the books and the movies (some more than others) but would probably wait until it was on DVD if up to me. My wife really wants to go and I do like seeing things in the theater so we will probably go to a late show sometime this week.

It was mentioned that most of the books could have been split into two movies, and I agree they could have. However I think the fact they were not made the movies a lot stronger. In fact I think I read Azkaban directer Curon talked them out of splitting his movie in two and argued they should trim and omit stuff first.

When they omitted stuff that I understand, it never bothers me (see: Dumbledore backstory), but it's funny that you bring up Cuaron, as it was his movie that was missing all the awesome backstory to the main plot.

It's kind of a testament to these movies that not a lot of people agree on the order of how good they are. You can look at it like they are all flawed, but also, all had great scenes.

Exactly. All had redeeming qualities, that's for sure. I loved the Cave scene in HBP, but they didn't even mention who the effing Half Blood Prince was. So it still falls to last in my eyes.

I agree, loved goblet of fire book but the movie did not do it justice.

The book/movie combos that hold up well are Prisoner of Azkaban and Deathly Hallows.

I see PoA from a it-was-still-a-good-movie-standpoint, but them not fully explaining the backstory is still annoying.

Chamber of Secrets did a great job with keeping to the likeness of the book, if memory serves. Though I realize that's a lot of fans' least favorite book.

The first two books were able to include just about all of the source material because they were so small. As far as adaptation's are concerned, people will always nitpick about visuals, casting decisions, etc., but as long as the work can keep the heart of the story intact whilst bringing it to life - I'm a happy camper. Fringe details, and even semi-important ones, are allowed to be altered, because it an adaptation.

I went in May. Totally nerded out, twas amazing. And the BUTTERBEER. Heaven in a cup.

Not gonna lie, I was slightly disappointed to hear they do not sell a semi-alcoholic version of butterbeer

At least put a tiny shot of buttershots in there or something. Just enough to get the house elves drunk. Adults want to enjoy the theme park too...
