Was mowing the lawn about an hour ago..
for some reason my Sirus Radio app on my phone went off. Happens, no big deal, loses signal..
But then, randomly... no idea how or why, my phone reached into my music playlist and randomly stated playing Dag Nasty's "Can I say" album.

My phone has finally connected with me on a spiritual level and knows what I want before I ask.
Hmmm... thought it was Motorola... why does it say "SKYNET" on the back of my phone??

So go me thinking...

What was the first album you bought with you own money?
And what was the first live concert you went to without a parent/guardian/older person?

First Album:
Anthrax - "Persistence of Time", 1993
Saved up enough change, and walked to Cutler's in my hometown of New Haven. I felt like a rebel returning home with a crossover thrash cassette tape at 7 years old.

New Haven Coliseum
Pantera, Slayer and Morbid Angel

first album I chose for myself (I got a choice of 4, with the purchase of any GWG Jeans at Mark's Work Wear World): The Beatles - some form of Greatest Hits
first album I paid cash money for: Men at Work - Business as Usual. circa 1981
Men_at_Work_-_Business_as_Usual.jpg

my father (if it ain't country, it's crap, and if it ain't Waylon, it's near-crap) said "why did you get this new shit. You should get some old music... some good music". So I went back to the record store, and looked through all of the album covers, and picked out Judas Priest - Sin after Sin. "Look Dad! it's from 1974!!". So in a way.... Thanks, Dad!

first concert:
Platinum Blonde, 1985. My friend's mom drove us down to the UBC War Memorial Gym to see them. (don't laugh, they had some great songs)
31687.jpg

however, i made up for it with my next concert
Judas Priest - 1986 (Ironically, more gay than Platinum Blonde)
I think they were supporting this dog of an album, but they played enough of their back catalog to make it awesome anyways. First row on the floor, until some moose broke my nose with his elbow because he wanted to be 1st row. after that it was 3rd row, but I had a lot of personal space because of all of the blood.

The Scorpions were the headliner.

Good show. My 2nd concert was the Grateful Dead at the old Cape Cod Colosseum. 3rd-J. Geils Band, 4th-Bob Seger, 5th-Jethro Tull, all and the Boston Garden.

I saw Iron Maiden 1986 as well, and the band Waysted was supposed to open up for them, but they got stuck at the border with drugs in the bus or something (shocking, I know). Bon Jovi happened to be in town recording Slippery When Wet, so they filled in as opener.
They put on a good show, but 80% of the audience just kind of stood there wondering who the hell these chumps were. It didn't quite fit in with what they were expecting.
also Jon BJ almost fell off of a speaker wall of about 40 feet up, that would have been the end of Bon Jovi right there.

First Album: I actually saved up enough money to buy 2 at the same time. The Beatles White Album
Janis Joplin Big Brother & the Holding Company (Cheap Thrills)
First live Concert Someone handed me something before the concert. Which made it the strangest concert I ever attended.
Alice Cooper welcome to my nightmare.
